Can I replace the glass on my wing mirrors with something I can actually see with? 

I don't think I've ever had a car with such useless ones 😄. Correctly set, I have a blind spot of about 320⁰. 

 

If it's internally adjusted mirrors (as oppposed to wind the window down and stick your arm out), you did used to be able to get convex replacement mirror glasses on ebay. 

 

It's a Mk2 Polo thing though, they're not the safest thing on the road. I always used to say "Set hazard perception level to - motorbike".

You're not wrong about the safety aspect - may as well rip the bloody things off for the extra 0.001% aerodynamics! 😄 

MOT only requires one interior and one exterior mirror to provide rear visibility.

 

My dad used to fit an oversized panoramic mirror, clipped over the interior

one on a car with a tiny wing mirror (might have been a Vauxhall Viva?).

As does base spec on pre 84 cars.

door mirror not wing mirror to be pedantic. These are wing mirrors on a Viva.

 

Nobody ever calls them door mirrors, but I have to admire your pedantry! 

May as well shine up a bit of tinfoil, it'd be just as good. 😄

On the subject of Breadvan wing(sorry, door😉) mirrors, is it possible to replace the glass only in the bog standard ones, my 89 Fox poverty spec drivers mirror needs a new glass.I can’t find a way to prise the mirror and it’s surround out of the body. Surely they are clipped together and not moulded as one piece?
 

This is the type you have to stick your hand out of the window and adjust manually.

They can be taken apart, but it's like 1984's version of dismantling an iphone, and then I'm not sure you'll find anything to replace the glass with. Probably best just getting a stick-on one.
