Hi all,

Attempted to fit some arb blocks this afternoon as thought it would be a relatively easy job. However, I could not for the life of me get the front bolts screwed in. The back ones went in fine but the fronts just wouldn't go. Even if they caught the first thread or two they would just pop out after any more.

Any ideas from previous experience?

jack it up , both wheels it air 

 

use your foot or a helper to shove each tyre backwards or forwards until the bolts line up , dont force them if not lined up as you will cross thread it

 

tracking needs altering afterwards , which many garages struggle to understand these days

I'll give it a go later.

National are offering alignment for £20, but the last time I tried they could not cope with a lowered car.

 

Many Kwikfit centres are offering Hunter Hawkeye alignment check for free (and adjustment free with one or more new tyres).

Thanks was looking at the Kwikfit ones too. Tyres are relatively new anyway so will just see what they come back with from the check.

Cheapest one I've found local to me is £52 for the front with ATS euromaster

id look for a back street type place with dunlop gauges and a old geezer that knows what to do ...doesnt need mega laser beam 4 wheel set up 

 

get ready for a tyre center to say the steering arm is bent , seized or they cant do it , polos are slightly strange to anyone that doesnt know them , if they start on its bent etc just leave and keep trying until you find someone that knows what to do , steering will need taking off to make it straight again

Ah right, typical polos causing problems lol 

I'll have a look around to see if there's any specialists around or an old geezer like you said. The phirm are local to me just can't get on that huuuuuge waiting list

 

 

 

 

 

 

you can do it with some string and axle stands , have a look on youtube if you fancy trying it , i do my own now fed up with thickos damaging things at garages and telling lies

Gunson Trakrite drive-over gauge also good for toe-in/toe-out measuring, if you can find one second hand. Not worth it new.

 

Camber is hardly adjustable without custom top mounts. The castor will be larger because of the ARB blocks pulling wheels forwards.
