Having a few issues with my 6N2 GTI. Can't begin to diagnose the faults due to a no response from controller error.

 

The list of things tried so far.

 

Genuine VCDS and cable

Clone cable and VCDS lite

Removed headunit

Removed clocks

Disconnected ECU

Disconnected ABS

Checked pins 4 and 7 (getting 10v)

Grounding pin 7 triggers the headlight adjusters

Disconnected headlight switch and adjusters

All fuses to do with ecu, clocks, and port have all been checked and replaced.

 

The port was working, but as soon as the EML came on, it stopped talking. 

 

Anything else you can suggest to try? I have my MOT on Saturday.

Maybe worth a try:

I remember back in the days when there were a lot of self made printed circuit board versions of the vcds adapter on the market for the old VAG-COM, we had issues to get into the 6N1 limited GTI ECU. (german only model)

When i remember right we had to change the boud-rate of the notebooks port... that helped to get access to some devices.

Your 6N2 GTI ECU is the generation straight after the 6N1 limited GTI ECU.

Maybe that issue still exists also with genuine VCDS and cable.

 

I've been playing with Baud rates on my none genuine cable and windows 7 laptop. Dropped the latency to 1, and baud rate to 4800 in device manager. Same result (no response from controller). I haven't played with any settings on VCDS itself.

 

The only module that seems to connect, is the ABS (Recently replaced due to control module failure, VCDS connected fine after replacing). However the headlight adjusters keep cycling up and down.

 

When I rebuilt the car, wiring loom was removed and thoroughly inspected last year.

 

I'm genuinely pulling my hair out with this.

Took another crack on this issue. Removed all the modules again one at a time. 

 

Airbag

Stereo

ABS

CCM

Engine ECU

Tested a spare CCM

 

still kept having issues with headlight adjusters cycling up and down and no response from controller error.

 

So decided to jack the car up unplug the headlight level sensor. Plugged the engine ECU back in. Boom connection, so tested the modules one at a time again. Connected every time.

 

Now back to diagnosing my original fault of the random misfires at 4.5KRPM.
