Installing first radio(mk2f), no output from radio with ignition on

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm new in this forum.

I have a Polo mk2f Bready, 1991.

I've attempted to install the first radio for this car, but after the radio gave no output after putting the polo in both ignition and turning the car on fully I decided to check the harness for the aftermarket radio and the wires already provided from the car(currently dangling out), I notice the wires don't line up at all. Maybe I need an adapter I'm not too sure, I'm new to radios also and so trying to learn as I go.

I attached the photos of the female and male connections, and the wires to the left of the speaker wires(Can supply more photos if needed). Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

First get a wiring diagram from the haynes or whatever and test your supply. There might be a constant live and an ignition live, the radio might need both supplies to work. The yellow and red will probably be the lives and the brown the ground. If you only have one live from the car, there should be a proprietary jumper on the radio wiring to link the red and yellow together.

Start by testing the car, then verify your red, yellow and brown are what i think they are.

Hello, I've managed to identify a few things with the wiring and that the radio is working but without instrument light.
I identified the following wires and confirmed that red=constant live, yellow=ignition live and brown being ground, I also have a blue and white=instrument light.

I also found that swapping the live and ignition live around coming from the radio made the cd player pull in and out CDs but without the instrument light being connected to the correct wire from the radio harness, it wont allow the radio to light up, is it possible to change the hole in which a wire is in in order to line it up with the other instrument light?

Here's the radio wiring diagram from the Haynes Manuel:
