^^ Standard exterior - Flash Red Paintwork, VERY badly needing re-sprayed... note the colour mis-matching. Its worse than a Harlequin!

post-4942-1154898160.jpg

^^ The Near side is the cars better side, but you can still see the faded paintwork.

^^ Standard grey interior, soon to be replaced with a 16v interior - The stain on the drivers seat was caused by an exploding bottle of Irn-Bru... ooops!!!

^^ Engine bay, as it is today

Comments:

Right, you may be wondering why I actually bothered posting my car ("Wesley"... for obvious reasons lol) on here, with it being so basic and all.... the answer is this - I bought the car in April this year, and now that the summer is over and i've saved up a fair amount of cash, its time to get all the work that needs doing to get the car the way I want it.

The way I see it, I can more or less keep a sort of photo diary of progress.

On Thursday 3rd August, I took the car to an independent car dealer to get their opinion on mechanical work that needs doing. I have this list here, and the work is being carried out fully on Sunday 13th August.

This will make the car mechanically sound, which will then allow me to move onto the next main thing, which is the bodywork.

As you will see from the photographs, the paintwork on the car is BADLY needing redone. Fortunately for me, my dad is a specialist in this field (boasting over 25 years experience), and has kindly agreed to undertake the task of respraying the whole car for me! (Free of charge I must add... he done my first polo and done a magnificent job!) I was originally going for the OEM look, by getting it painted Flash Red. I have since taken a different view to this, and would like something metallic. I will keep it red, I am just undecided as of yet what the exact shade is going to be.

After completion of the exterior, I am going to then focus on the cars interior. At this current moment in time, I am arranging to collect a complete 16v interior, which should compliment the new paintwork very well. I should have the interior in my possesion before the respray is started.

At some point between the mechanicals, and the interior being done, I am going to install a new Head Unit, front components, Mid Range, and a decent woofer setup - I am still seeking some advice on this, but when I know more details about the setup I have selected, I will update this.

I plan to have the whole project (Mechanical, Respray, Interior and ICE) done by the October week, then I can start to focus on the performance of the car - Lower the ride height, install a performance exhaust, and maybe even some window tints. These little things all add up to make a car completely personal.

I will keep this updated on a regular basis.... this should make a nice wee "Before and After"

Thanks for reading, any comments and suggestions would be much appreciated 8-)

Update - 10th March 2007

Right, haven't really been on here much over the past few months, been busy settling into a new job, and spending all my spare time on the car lol.

Since the last time I updated, I have done the following...

16v Interior with carpets

Smoked Indicators all round

New Kenwood Head Unit and Speakers all round, 10 Disc Kenwood Autochanger

Lowered 40mm on Koni Shocks and Springs

Rieger RS3 Bodykit professionally fitted, Bumpers, Skirts and Spoiler, also eyebrow kit.

Full respray in Flash Red, professionally done - 8 coats of paint, 4 coats of lacquer, VERY shiny!!!

Side Rubbing strips removed

I also have a set of 17" Alpina alloys in the garage, which I have decided not to fit, I will go for a set of Euro-Style deep dished 15's me thinks.

Here are some updated photos, more to follow - What do you all think???

Finito!!!

I think this will look VERY nice with some deep dish rims on it, maybe a set of Ronal Turbos, or Borbet A's.... see what happens!!!

Sitting quite low, which I like - Dont think I would have it any lower. I have had some feedback about the front grille, I will say this again and again, but I like the VW badge lol, I deliberately got the eyebrow spoiler modified to accomodate it. I have kept VW badge on both front and rear, but took off the Polo badge.

Plans for the near future.....

Full alarm, immobiliser and Remote Central Locking kit professionally Installed

Window Tints all round

Stainless Steel backbox (not TOO loud)

Replacing door handles with rear handles, effectively de-locking them (after installation of remote locking).... I might also get these colour coded.

In-dash DVD player with touchscreen, linked up to a Car PC (I'm in the process of building this), running Windows Vista, DVD Software etc

And the final finishing touch........... My private plate ;)

I plan to get the bulk of these mods done during my holidays in April, but we will have to see what happens - Knowing my luck, something else will crop up!!!

Will keep this updated tho.

Constructive criticism welcome ;)

Steven

lovin tha car mate, looks mint. defo get some deep dish will look sooo gd then. how is your grille spoiler fitted though, as i've just bought one an think I'm gona have to stick it down to the headlights and indicators. is this how urs is done?

Gr8 lookin car m8, nice to see a polo brought back to life

Now THAT is wikkid!

What a transformation!

its screamin for a set of mk5 rear lights and some new alloys, nice to see something different though

ahh much better!!!! :-D same bumpers as i was thinkin about going for!!!!

I hate seeing old red cars with worn out, lifeless paint thats gone pink. Youv given the car a breath of life. Good job, looks so much better!

I think the front bumper really does like nice, although I'm not keen on the rear one I'm afraid..Too many "Exhaust" holes for me.

With some new wheels itl look spot on. Keep it going'
