How to install Throttle bodies

Featured Replies

Hey everyone,

I’m planning to convert my VW 1.3 L GK engine (from a Polo 86C GT) to individual throttle bodies (ITBs) and I’m looking for some advice from people who’ve done this before.

I found the DanST Engineering GSXR 38 mm bike throttle body starter kit for VW 1.1–1.3 8v engines, and it looks really promising — but I’d like to know how well it actually works in practice.

A few questions:

  • Has anyone here installed this kit (or a similar GSXR throttle body setup) on a GK engine?

  • What kind of ECU did you use for fuel and ignition control?

  • What’s needed to convert from carb to EFI — fuel pump, lines, sensors, etc.?

  • Any tips or issues during installation (manifold fitment, throttle linkage, tuning, etc.)?

  • And how do you install and wire the sensors (crank position, coolant temp, intake air temp, TPS, etc.) when doing this conversion?

I’m aiming for a track setup with good throttle response and strong mid- to high-range torque.
Any photos, wiring advice, or build threads would be super helpful.
