Didn't know where to post. Year 2000 6N2 had most of life. Probably blown head gasket September 24 - sitting on drive since.

Now Sorn, no tax, no mot, no insurance. Will run. Kept battery charged and moved on drive regularly but not run up to temperature. Brand new tyres when it overheated.

Not in the habit of disposing of vehicles. Any advice appreciated for somebody in my position or pitfalls to watch out for. Not in good enough health to bring this car back again.

I used this charity to scrap a Toyota Yaris with a rusted fuel tank (among other MOT issues).

Collected on a transporter from my usual garage

by a very competent guy.

Running high miles engine but no fuel supply possible.

He unseized a stuck rear drum brake with a borrowed hammer. We used a big battery to drive it on the starter motor with emergency flashers down an awkward hill across a busy road and uphill again until the transporter's winch could be used to pull it on board.

I kept the V5c certificate disposal section (yellow) and sent that to DVLA.

It raised £220 for charity.

Or phone your local scrapyard who'll come and collect and pay you, possibly less than that.

Thanks for the reply. I certainly didn't know about this charity. I have half a mind to go that route as the car truly doesn't owe us anything and it would be a nice send off after all these years. But at the same time - if there is any money left in the car then I really do need it. Sounds like you had a really helpful and competent person get you out of what would be, for a lot of people, a difficult situation. I will certainly bear it in mind though and have a look at the website.

Wanted to gauge if there are any pitfalls of scrappage, or disposing of a car - in general, that I might overlook as somebody that hasn't done this for over 20 years.

If you have the time, space, skills and tools you could dismantle it yourself and list and sell all the parts. But you say you are not in good enough health.

Are the new ish tyres on good condition alloy wheels without kerbing? Look what they sell for on eBay or gumtree or FB marketplace.

But you might get to a point where you have to pay a scrapyard to take the rest away.

Thanks for the further advice dvderlm. Yes, mental and physical health really not good otherwise car would probably still be on the road. So I'm past breaking it myself to be honest. Steel wheels so no value.

Hi, mr brightside. I'm in Nottingham. Tyres are 175/65 R13 80T. I've tried to move the car back and forth once a month and keep the tyres well inflated but as it's not been driven on road I have no real guarantees against flat spotting. They look like new, at a glance (need to inspect closer) and have less the 25 miles I guess as was done pre MOT where it overheated on the hottest day of 2024. There are no front fog lights on the car.
