Yeah just fit it wherever the blank is. I must have got mine from someone breaking a mk1 golf as I think they sent me a combined choke/handbrake indicator with the plug and a foot of wire already on the back. When I did away with the choke I bought one from the ebay link and just swapped them over.

Thanks mate the brown dash still surprises alot of people (in a good way!) I still haven't re-trimmed the corrado seats yet but I'm thinking I will just re-trim them and the worn rear bench to something along the same lines it had from the factory.

Some updates today...

Removed Inlet manifold to port it so I can fit a bigger throttlebody and to put standard injectors back in. I think I'll be fitting a catch tank now as well. Wasn't going to bother but the manifold was really oiled up inside. Moreso than I was expecting anyway after only 1200ish miles since the rebuild. I think not having the oil return to the head may be causing a few issues. It's a shame I can't fit the bigger oil breather from a 1.6 (It fouls the manifold!)

Still looks sweet Gaz- how's the frame after that pot 'hole' issue?

That washer bottle still makes me laugh- fill up once a year?

In the 6 years I've had the car I've Never filled it!

Not had any issues but I'm thinking I might revert to a stage 2 as with the weitec kit it rolls around a helluva lot.

Throttlebody fitted and standard injectors back in. Doesn't stink of petrol when cold anymore and throttle response is mega! :D

As ready for the MOT as she'll ever be. Brakes bled, airbox secured properly (no cable ties or foam insulation now!) Once she passes I can look forward to the polo show. :)

Such a nice car!

Thanks, it's off the road at the mo. Need to get it roadworthy in time for the 2012 show season. :)

My favourite loon!

Any plans for the engine?

Needs a 4-branch and a proper remap. I was looking at last years power graph from the RR day and it's all over the place. It's making less power than similar spec 1.3 GTs, but about 10-15lbft more torque.

I also need to change the gearbox as the synchro's had it on 2nd, I'm currently looking for a CWV mk4 gearbox for it that hasn't melted as it has some very nice ratios and I think it'd suit the 1.4 better than the GT or 8P box.

Doubt it would last long though, i would rebuild the box with mk2-3 stuff.

Can't wait to see this in the fleash, hopefully see you at a show or meet this year!

Maybe. If I can get a knackered one cheap and it can be rebuilt I'd consider it. The mk2-3 boxes just don't have the right ratio/final drive combo that I want.

I have the gearbox out of my ABD mk3 Golf if you're interested Gaz! :-) Performed flawlessly!

I've a couple of spare 5-speed boxes! I'm just fussy. :)

 Fair enough, I just thought it might have similar ratios to what you're looking for :-)

The mk3 golf ones have the same ratios as the 8P in the mk2/3 polo. Dunno why they have different codes though. I have a CHX from an ABD and it's the same ratios and external appearance as my CEG from a late mk3.

What I could do with is etka for SEATs from around the same time, as I think the ibiza and cordoba might have a few gearboxes that I could use.

hi! i have a mk2f (mk3) polo GT 1.3 1991. i was wondering where i can get the poloace chip from? anyone help me please! THANKSS!

Thanks, I managed to find out what I needed to know, it turns out there's 7 or 8 gearboxes with the right ratios, they're fitted mostly to the polo saloon & estate 6ks with the AEA and AEE engines

This I need to look into....

Gearbox overload time. :)

The box I'm looking for is a slight compromise; The 5th isn't quite as long as an 8P, but it's still 85ish at 4k with the G60s on. If you stumble across one on your travels let me know. Here's the code list I have so far:

CLJ, CWV, DCK, DXN, DYH and ERC

There is a DCK box on ebay for £200 but I could buy a whole mk4 for that! :D

The first two are fitted to early 6Ns with the AEA engine only. I think it might be just one model of 6n as well; the GLX as it pre-dated the 16v It makes sense to have a close ratio box on that. I think the AEE engines have a CZG box (virtually the same as a g40 box apart from a slightly shorter 5th, which incidentally I would also settle for but ones from the list are preferred!)

They're the same ratios as a gt box but with a 3.588:1 final drive. I've got a feeling the ERC box will have the later type of input shaft so I'd have to change the clutch (maybe more?) and the 'D' boxes hold less oil than the earlier ones, maybe one of the things that leads to their early demise.

Don't tell Vic but while I was looking around on ETKA at later stuff I found an even longer 5th gearset than that fitted to the diesel mk4. 34/53! Now that's an 'E' gear!

That's the daddy I need right there
