they are illegal as they are not reflective

I've had plain non banded german plates for about 6 months now and have had a few coppers behind me at times and they haven't bothered but the ARE illegal

i have two mates with them one got pulled the police man noticed the plates being non reflective n my mate said that they were just dirty the copper wiped them n said so they are haha cheaky git the other has had no problems but tbh the police are usually distracted my his exhaust hitting the floor or other things .

Mine are pressed metal, reflective with correct spacing and UK font

As far as I can see, if they're UK font and reflective, and the spacing is correct, then they're legal. There is no regulation against having pressed alloy plates rather than the usual perspex ones. I'm going to get a set from Dubmeister when I get round to it - I was toying with the idea of the german font ones, but not sure I really want to risk it.

peeps who got reflective ones... where did you get them???

Mine were from Germany, cost £26.76 for the pair incl p+p, came in a few days. Excellent quality too.

^^^ mine are the same as that and I've not had any bother. However, they are still illegal because the font and spacing is wrong.

will they do correct spacing?

right LEGALLY they are only allowed to have a UK oerUE band on them (you want plain ones so thats not the issue) but they legally have to be E-Marked in the corner and have the post code of the place where you got them from along to bottom

in THEORY yes if they are reflective and correct spacing and correct font they should be legal but our governemnt are nice people so it aint that simple

Balls to the law i see people with dodgy plates on all the time... Just carry some decent ones with you so worst comes to worst just say

"oh I'm sorry orrificer i didn't realise, i'll put these ones back on as to not cause any disruption(sp?), Thankyou for letting me know"

They only have to be E-Marked and have post code if the Plates were made after a certain year (not sure which year, '98 i think) therefor (legal loophole time) if they are not e-marked and postcoded, on older cars how can you prove when the plates were made. i passed mot on this(with help of friendly tester)

so does anybody know of a place that will make up reflective ones with uk font? Mine are a bit grubby anyway so i'm thinking i may as well go for pressed ones.

well I'm gonna get mine from here the show ones are reflective from the looks and right font they just have no post code so worth ago.

Bit of a hijack,but as we're on the subject..

I like my plates - they're the original dealer ones that the car was registered with 18 years ago,with the old skool VW and Audi logo's on.

Priceless.

Trouble is,they're fading,and the plastic is getting brittle.The Audi logo's are now pink instead of red,and the perspex has lost its gloss.

So i want to restore them.

I dont know the right clear plastic to use - I'm thinking polycarbonate (race car windows) or polyethyleneterephthalate (what fizzy drinks bottles are made of),the latter of which is the toughest clear plastic on earth.

Also,i dont know how best to remove the back - other than warming the plates up and peeling,which will surely risk stretching.

Or even a suitable re-bonding material.

Anyone got any ideas?
