I've followed this guide and took my spare apart because a oil seal had gone, I've just got it back today with a fresh seal put in, couldnt wait to rebuild it!

I've got loads of pics so i could finish this guide but theirs not much to it once that middle scroll is taken out.

lee did you not put seals in and rebuild it etc? when you say you got it back? any pics would be wicked I'm sourcing all info atm then I've got 2 to do , just sorting that kluber greese from germany, any help on seals and bearings from over here from anyone?

I brought the charger quite cheap knowing it had blown, its my spare so i decided to rebuild it myself. I've never done anything like this before and i dont do it as a trade, but if its going to save me money i thought id give it a go!

Just got to be very careful as you could easily break it! I followed the guide on here, up to were you take the internal scroll out, after that problem was pretty obvious, the outlet oil seal had gone, not only come loose but it had melted leaving tough rubber gunk everywhere and it had been scored into by the displacer leaving metal fragments inside too. Not good! Everything else was in good condition, bearings, apex springs,strips and seals

Theres the seal and the outlet half of the charger.

The seal was quite loose so i could pull it out, i then used thinners and a sharp stanley blade to clean all the melted seal off.

And thats it after a good scrub and degrease.

It had a full blend by psd a while back, but i thought i could do better at porting and polishing it. also gave it a quick lick of paint.

I brought a replacement seal, kluber grease, oil seal glue and loctite from some german website.

I was going to buy myself a oil seal pusher but i never got round to it and decided to do it the pikey way using a socket and g clamp to slowly push the seal in. But it really didnt work out and the seal bent and got stuck in there!

Maybe if i had put the seal in the fridge so it shrunk a bit and heated the charger with a hairdryer it might have fitted better? too late!

So i got g-werks to fit me a seal, £50 to remove the nackered one,replace it with a new one and post it back. I thought it wasnt bad considering a complete rebuild is about £350+

I received the outlet half back today and didnt hesitate in rebuilding it, I've put the apex springs and strips back in and greased it all up, I'm going to seal it back together tomorrow when i get some decent allen keys.

Brave effort trying! I have to say i think you may have gone a bit close to the bone with the porting on the outlet fins. That looks almost as brittle as an RS2 spec ported charger. I hope you have a spare!

I haven't gone that mad at it, theirs pently there to hold the main shaft steady, all I've done is polishing mainly. and sharpened the fins a bit nothing thats gonna weaken it.

lee what tool did you use to polish it?

i've done about 7 successfully... i will do a guide at somepoint, have the pics but no time.

I'm gonna do a complete rebuild on my current charger in my car, how did you fit the oil seals?

I brought a dremel type tool from a hobby shop for 20 quid, does the job pretty well.

50 quid for a seal fitted!! Robbery, down right daylight robbery. Like getting bummed by a rhino. Someone should seriously get a decent diy up, something along the lines of the old g-lader.info site- that was awesome.

is there a product to say clean the charger out whilst still fitted>?

maby a spray to clean it out whilst its running.. i really dont trust myself to strip it, I'm far to harsh and not patient.

the seal which i put in was stuck in their solid! I just thought id rather just pay the cash and get it done, next time ill use a seal press and do it myself

i fitted my apex seals whilst the casing was still warm, pushed in by hand (i did have heat proof gloves on which helped)

only prob i have now, is that the other half is missing the apex seal tensioners. Took the apex seals out to find nothing behind them
