I'm stuck at the first hurdle, what did people use to take the blocks apart when they got them?

2 small screw drivers. they just prise apart.

stick them in the holes and pull them in opposite directions. like a X shape.

I got one side in a vice and tapped the metal bushes out with a hammer and drift.

took me about 30mins tbh. prising the arb forward enough and holding it while trying to put the bolts in was the hardest bit, then seeing that the strut brace slightly fouls it, so that hole had to be made abit bigger.

I'm having these fitted to my car tomorrow! Do you think it would be a good idea to use a ratchet strap from the ged's brace back onto the arb to move it forwards?

that was what i did......make sure you jack both wheels up

i did mine on the ground and use a scissor jack between the arb and the gearbox

can the arb be bolted down in the wrong place ie too far over one side? Before it could move slightly but with these new blocks and clamps its cant move at all.

If it's too far to one side, your steering wheel will be crooked, and you'll very quickly get feathering scrubbage on the shoulder of a front tyre.

Surely you only put the polomint clamps once it's settled into place.

Final tightening of the green clamps once lowered ground then drive or push

twenty feet forwards, twenty feet back, full left lock, full right lock, check nothings come loose, then forwards and backwards again and see if it gets back to the same spot.

Then fit the polomints.

That's my plan. And then I'm taking it for wheel alignment.

I'm putting my polomints on the outside of the green blocks as there's a bend in the bar where I hoped to put them on the inside.

Thats what I've just done, its mental how much tighter my arb is now! My TRA's must have been shot!! well i had a bent caliper carrier as well so i reckon the car has come in to contact with a kerb at some point!!

I do love finding things out about a car when you pull it apart!!

Is anyone else painting these before fitting?

I've just been doing mine with a brush and hammerite smooth metal paint.

I've done the 2 plates, main 4 bolts and the circle clamp things - and will just proper grease all the bolts before fitting...

Do with think the doughnut ring bolts heads will need treating?

It looks like i'll be leaving these to dry and then have to do a second coat so probably wont be going on until next weekend and the latest...

i got all the bolts and plates zinc coated before fitting. cost me all of a tenner too. theyve been on since christmas and arnt rusty still.

^ Sounds like a good plan. I just found a left over can of chrome effect paint from when I was building my bike and thought I'd use that. Zinc primer and then the paint.
