6n gearbox, single rod vs cables

Featured Replies

I'm currently in the process of replacing the engine (and possibly gearbox) in my 1.6 glx mk4 6n polo. The car which i'll be driving used to have a cable selector type gearbox in it which has been subsequently removed with the engine. The problem is this, the cable selector gearbox has 112k on it and i have no idea of its history. I'm putting in my other engine which currently is paired to a rod selector type gearbox which only has 76k on it and was reconditioned 20k ago. Obviously i REALLY want to use the rod selector box, so my question is what will i need to do to facillitate this? Is it going to require me to change the gearstick and any associated mechinsims around that on the car? I have all the parts for both systems obviously, just wondering how i should go about it?

Anyone with experience of changing one type of box for another please help me out, i dont really want to use the box with 112k on it but i guess i can if there's no way of changing it.

Thanks again guys

Nick

edit: Duuuh, was being moderatley stupid, changed the mechanisms no problem :)
