2006 vw polo headunit upgrade problem

i took the old head unit of the polo out and replaced it with a brand new alpine head unit, the problem is that the head unit doesn't switch off when the key is taken out the ignition. I've taken advise from my mates buy changing the red an yellow wire at the back but that doesn't help. has anyone else had this problem when they changed their headunit
