I've got a scrap Mk4 Polo Driver's door mirror which will replace my broken one.

It needs re-spraying and it looks like it's impossible to seperate the plastic shell from the main body. Looks like there is a collar and spring which has been crimped during manufacture.

It would be easy if I could somehow 'undo' it. Looks impossible, any ideas?
