at the RR day last year my GT had 88 bhp and yoof's had 90bhp this year, and I was running a fairly similar setup e.g. golf AFM and 4 branch exhaust, but I did have one of Dans chips in it.

hmm, a year apart tho dom, you can't compare power figures between different days let alone years...

i always think its best to have the correct parts on your car, i fitted the spi dizzy at the weekend and timed it up properly to see if mine was fooked (under gas) but it didn't like it one bit. gt dizzy is far better IMO.

yeah and hence why I said similar, as there are so many variables even on the same spec cars on the same day, and even on the same day you can get quite a variation due to temperhature and atmosheric pressure.

This was also the cause of poor running and bad idling issues on my black GT. I knew it had a new dizzy on shortly before I bought it, and I assumed it was the correct part (as you do )

To cut a long story short, I spend ages scraching my head think what it could be, double and triple checking stuff like ISV and vacuum pipes and it turned out to be the wrong dizzy.

So I got the correct dizzy on, set it all up and it worked a treat.

Nope, never checked. This is the first time I've EVER checked I've got the right dizzy. I wish I had done it sooner. Although having said that I've only just aquired a GT dizzy for it. So in a way its worked out alright.

Just been out to check mine, and it's the right one.

Did wonder if that was the source of my running problems, but it isn't.

That's a good thing, because it's not cheap to replace, I should know, I replaced the dizzy on my old engine.

Been informed that it's £139 or something to buy a new one. I'm gonna be phoning up Volks Center tomorrow to check.

Might be able to get a hold of one soon anyway - along with more of a GT for about the same price as a new dizzy

So looks like I have the correct dizzy then. I have a couple spare, but they all need rebuilding.

Are the hall senders the same? As the two I have spare, both hall senders are buggered.

I got a spare with a buggered hall sender too

The hall sender is different and so is the internal brass coloured wheel with gaps in it.

Well, I phoned my Volks Center Aberdeen (specialised independant VW dealer) and they can't get a hold of that item - wonderful. But they gave me a number for a Bosche dealer. They cross refereced VAG number 030 905 205 T to the Bosche exchange number 0986 237 668 and found the GT dizzy.

The bad bit - none in the UK for Bosche, have to get one in from Germany. Price = £165.38 + VAT

I haven't phoned my main VW garage yet, but I'll swing by them later today see what they say - I'm a little frightened to be honest

I'm also waiting on a reply from Martyn @ VAG Parts so we'll see what he comes back with.

You have a couple spare? How much will you want for one?

my stash of parts arnt for sale, because if I need them in future, when I want them I'll have to spend ages trying to locate them or paying extortionate amounts of money, so I've bought things that I may need when they've been cheap.

If you plan on keeping cars for a while and have the space it makes sense to do it.

I think you are right. I believe you can get a hall sender replacement kit from VAG too.

By the way guys, EuroCarPrats can get Bosch stuff - which I found to be cheaper than my local Bosch dealer for fuel pumps at least. And like Del says, the Bosch part number is: 0 986 237 668.

How much can you get a fuel pump for then? Mine is making funny noises.

I got a Bosch inline pump, VDO lift pump and the filter and strainer for about £150 from ECP.

I'm using a Skoda 1.6 dizzy on mine. Part number ends with AB. The gaps on the rotor are the same as a GT as this is what makes SPi dizzy's run crap when fitted to GT's as the gaps in the SPi dizzy's are smaller.

You can use a hall sender from an SPi dizzy.

Yeah, the gaps affect the hall sender output used to control the ignition advance - as Digipants partially adjusts the idle via messing with the advance you'll get an unsteady idle with a non-GT dizzy. (or non-GT hall sender trigger wheel spacing).
