yeah its the wrong dizzy. mk4 one should be fine, has to be from an mpi though I think, part number ending with AB

I went to the scrappys and noticed a seat ibiza r reg i think, multipoint injection. So i grabbed the dizzy off it. £20.

Well got home and stripped my old AA dizzy and then pulled the Ibiza one apart too, i used the shaft (with rotor thingy) and Hall sender from the Ibiza and the casing from my SPI and the plastic end bit (that attaches to the camshaft) also from the SPI.

Stuck it on my GT as i had the wrong one and the whole car feels so much nicer!

The dizzy code was~:

0237521 061

hope this may help to sort more people running the wrong dizzy for a GT!

very confused now I've seen this thread, I'm running a polo mk3 gt engine on bike carbs in a mk2 golf

I'm using the golf 1.3 (single carb, not injection!) wiring, dizzy & coil set up, would i benefit from using a gt dizzy?

have a feeling I'm using the correct dizzy cos i can retard and advance the timing??? also have know where to put the vac line from the dizzy onto the inlet manifold and it idles well to. that normal?

I had a new dizzy on my '93 GT fitted by the previous owner which had no part numbers at all (prob a pattern part SPI dizzy?)

Anyways I had crap idle issues, revs would climb to 1500rpm when fired up then slowly drop down to 950rpm but would fluctuate between 900rpm & 1000rpm and when driving the car would hesitate when pulling from low revs (basically waiting for the timing to advance due to running the wrong dizzy)

So I bought an AB dizzy off ebay for £19 and fitted it last night and she now fires up and idles at 950rpm no probs and has transformed the engine! No hesitant pulling away and pulls real hard in all gears :)

So if you have a GT with the wrong dizzy and want a cheap & reliable solution, buy the AB!

Hope this helps anyone :)

In a word; No

GT dizzy is matched to the ECU. Since you have done away with the ECU and fitted a carb, you need the mk2 dizzy as it has a built in ignition advance system (On a standard GT, the ignition advance is controlled by the ECU) It sounds like you have it set up as it should be :)

Just checked my dizzy on my GT but I'm running motorbike carbs on mine.

The part number is 030 905 205 B is this the correct one?

Is the hall sender the large black plug on top of the dizzy with 3 terminals in it?

Just had a look at a few G40/GT's on here and the large black plug on the top is directly on top of the dizzy, but my dizzy seems to have it on side pointing towards the radiator.

Cheers

Cheers Saf, your wealth of knowledge is bodayshush!

And answer my text message! hahaha

at work mate and mad busy - had about 40 text messages and struggling to reply in stealth, you can strip the carbs down on your living room table mate, best way to work out how everything goes, but failing that there is a place called NRP in manchester (they are in victoria station, first door on the right as you walk in the entrance.

hahaha stealth texting. Ok mate cheers will give them a try.

Thanks again mucho appreciated!!!!

so does a 6n MPI dizzy fit onto the Polo GT ( mk2f (mk3 on here) )?? thanks

yes I've told you this  , the code stamped on the dizzy should end ab like it says on the first page of this thread , the only real difference is that the hall sender plug sits a bit further round.

Which might i add is a bitch on a G as the boost pipe sits on the hall sender plug

Hi, my name is Joaquin. i´m from Uruguay and i have an mk2 Golf with 1300cc(HK) engine.
I´ve a problem with my distributor, and i´m plannig to change it to electronic ignition.
My question is if someone have tried with a Golf 16V distributor? This one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/VW-Jetta-distributor-POWERSPARK-Jetta-MKII-1-8-16v-/130533056467?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Model%3AGolf&hash=item1e64605fd3&vxp=mtr#ht_4839wt_1118

Bosch: http://www.ebay.com/itm/W0133-1600112-BOS-Bosch-Remanufactured-Ignition-Distributor-/310867017959?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3AGolf&hash=item48611e40e7&vxp=mtr#ht_3651wt_1120

It seems to be really similar but i dont know if fits in the cylinder head.
Please any information is welcome. Thanks!!!
