Idealy you should use axle stands. But if you think that logically you wouldn't be fiddling about with wheels rotating at high speeds

Going to get the tyres taken off the rims 2morro at a mates garage (also currently building a mk2 golf trackday car :grin: )

Hopefully it will be easier refurbing them without tyres

Yeah should be loads easier. Also means you can clean the bead so that the tyre fits on nice and snug!

Did a bit more on one rim 2day i take ages to ever get round to doing it coz I'm lazy but they are looking a bit better...

What are you going to do with the lip after all the paint has been removed? Laquer it?

Personally I wouldn't lacquer it as lacquer doesn't stick to polished surfaces very well and ends up going milky. Aslong as you wash your wheels regularly and use some wheel wax on them they should be fine for years and years!

Yes, but no point in polishing a steel wheel as it will just rust

I was thinking of laquering them but now you say that it has put me off a bit... What wheel wax do you need i have never seen the stuff. If i get lazy with the cleaning and waxing will i just get back to square 1 again tho?? I'm lazy when it comes to keepin my car clean. I dont call it the dirty diesel for nothing you know!

Well if you lazy either way your going to have problems as polished wheels require cleaning at least once a week to keep them in top condition. If you don't clean them they will just go wanky. IE either go back to square one if its bare metal or the lacquer will go all milky and horrible.

If not not much into cleaning them spray them matte black and be done with it.

Autosol is the way forward... Iv got a set of psluts for winter wheels so i should be ok.

Iv had a bit more progress on these rims now. Bought a polishing kit and some aluminium polish/wax stuff. Think i may of started to polish the rim too early tho as there is still some pitting marks :(

If they are heavily pitted I'd go 240 > 280 > 400 > 600 > 800 > 1200 > 1500 > polishing mops

Let the car do the work for you, trust me, its sooo much easier.
