Power Steering for 1997 Polo 1.0L

Hi, I'm new to the Club and run a very nice ten year old Polo but the steering is too heavy for my wife. I would like to upgrade to power steering - but for sensible money. It strikes me that the bits from a scrap 1.4CL (readily available) should do, but don't want to go to the trouble of dismantling a 1.4 if the bits wont fit or work. The only 'help' I got from the local VW garage is that all the part numbers are different for the power stteering components on the 1.0 and 1.4 cars. Any advice gratefully recieved!
