Help please.

I have a P-reg Polo that suffers the same as my old F-reg model i.e. awful brakes; but also it rolls around when you try and corner at any speed. My other half has suggested upgrading the brakes and suspension. Does anyone know of a sensibly priced upgrade, especially for the brakes (i.e. one that won't be more than the value of the car)?
