  • i know what you mean with the filler mate i do it myself, i tend to do it more when weather is a bit cold so it goes off quicker but i hate it when your just in the middle of a skim and it sets it pis

yeah the tailgate is from a mk5 and it fits spot on mate you don't have to do any body work or out but i am because i have the mk5 lights too and the lights or tailgate don't sit flush with the body so i have to bring the little parts of body under the lights out about 5mm but apart from that yeah it fits ok.

just started flushing the back off today so that the mk5 lights and tailgate all sit flush with the body and to eachother

it's not as hard as you might think as long as you get your filler on smoothish then all you have to worrie about then is sanding it right and thats not that hard just start with 40 grit paper too get the bulk of it down then move on to 80 then 120 but when your sanding don't just go up and down or left to right sand in all different directions this way it feathers all the edges out and you don't end up with high edges.

be careful not to take too much off mate coz you will fill and sand and end up filling it again and again. the swage lines are the hardest to get right so i would practice on things like that too.

when your doing filling its best not to put loads on at once just keep building it up with and shaping it with 1 2 or 3 skims this is better coz it stop's the filler falling out, this way it will key better to the metal or plastic. you have to sand it down between skims tho hope this helps you mate glad to help

any difference in fibre glass to plasic welding?

i want to smooth the numberplate recess on the front bumper, but i dont see how fibre glass would work :S

chris

Just a quick question...

Why get a mk 5 boot, then just totally smooth it? Thought you would of kept the badge!

i was about to ask exactly the same question lol.

Good!

Thought i was the only one confuzzled!

Also, would you mind if i PM'd you about a few bits, cos I'm getting bored with my polo, cant afford to get the bodywork done yet and things like the front bumper and the creases at the bottem of the boot i might b able to do myself... with a little bit of guidance lol

well i thought it would confuse people, if they look at the front of my car and see it was a mk4 then look at the back and have to think about if they was right or not.

i love the mk5 boot lid smoothed always have done and i thought why not put one on my car see if it fits and it did just some slight alterations under the lights and its looking ok up to now.

the reason i smoothed it is coz i hate badges really i think they spoil the look of the car and its not really in keeping with the smooth euro look either the smoother the better i say.

yeah i would be glad to help you and talk you through some things.

Ahhh ok, just seen the brake light at the top of the boot aswel!

PM on its way to you my freind :D
