CHANGING THE INTERIOR LIGHTING ON A MK3 :: FAQ!!

Featured Replies

Yeah, blue's a shorter wave length right? So yeah, I doubt it would work as well just using acitate like I did for red. You might need bulbs like you've used - not sure.

I doubt it would work well with blue acetate either.

You'd need a really bright bulb as a std tungsten buld doesn't give off much blue light.

blue light is below 500nm.

Thats why a blue LED is the best option - it emits light in only the blue wavelengths.

On Geman Ebay at the Moment there are some 'Plasma' gauge faces for the mk3

DelGT, your clocks look good. Where can you get this acitate stuff from? I was thinking of matching my dials to my cdplayer colour. It's sort of white with a tint of purple/blue in it. What colours does this acitate come in?

Mine are bright enough to see quite clearly in broad daylight. no chance of me leaving my lights on by mistake.:shock:

there´s a well known problem with the bulbs that doesn´t happen with the leds - its the heating problem - the bulbs become warm when they´re being used and the leds doesn´t so my opinion is to replace as many bulbs as possible. In my GT the only bulbs that I have is the front ones even the minimums were replaced by leds I´ll post some pictures when I have a chance

looks like blue LED's and luminous red paint on the needles. Something I'd like to do one of these days...

Has anyone tried painting the needles with some sort of fluorescent paint??

- it should work quite well with blue (short wavelength) light....

Sorry forgot to say - its to make the needles glow red at night 8-)

used some red/orange fluorescent paint on mine. looks cool at night.

glow really well with the blue dash lights.

I dunno what to do with the clocks on the MK2. I wanna keep them fairly o.e looking, whilst sorting out the issue of them looking total pants. LED lighting will help at night, but not much during the day. Harley Davidson clocks, thats what i need.

On my mk2 I did the same thing as I did on the mk3, only this time I used green LEDs instead of blue. (seemed to make more sense to keep it green on this car)

Not got round to sorting the LCD display. Will do with the rocco clocks though.

Much brighter at night than standard (this pic was taken during the day)

Just thought I'd add a pic off mine, I ahrd wired in six LED's into the binical loom, but used a twist type buld fitting with an LED for the clock. fiited the LED facing the opposite way to the Origianl bulbs to get better projection.

Its not as bright as it looks in the pic, camera was on night mode so its all ultra light.
