what steering wheel boss kit have you used? i cant find one to fit my mountney wheel

Wheels need to be lacquered yet dude as the old stuff is all scratched so hopefully will look better then!

Boss kit is a modified mk1/mk2 golf small spline..... it shows you on pg 5 how i did it

Cheers dude, and they were lightest tint the guy had that was closest to a greeny tint and for £50 i wasnt complaining!

Plus when the roof is open it doesnt look anywhere near as dark

Ok, so was on my merry way up to Bordon to pick the other half from the barracks coz his eyes decided to get an infection so he cant drive...

anyway... i was criusing along about 65-70mph and suddenly i started losing power... and i heard this kind of tapping/knocking noise (just about over the blairing tunes)..... eventually i had to pull over but it cudnt have been in a worse place..... on the A3!

And to top it off there isnt a proper hard shoulder so I had to ditch polo into the verge... which also happened to be a bog!..... so the boyfriend got a lift to me but still we couldnt sort it out... I limped off the A3 and pulled over at the first place big enough to get off the road....

The RAC man turned up and did the old compression test coz we thought it was a spark plug/lead problem... turned out the gasket had gone on one side!

SO the once on the road polo is now off the road pending a replacement gasket.... but on the bright side it means that the valve stem seals can now have a good looking at as we suspect one may have gone... and i got to drive my dads mates B3 passat GT to work (which is for sale btw!)

Will let you know how we get on

I suppose you'll know that the head is healthy when it's done and the fact that what you've achieved will make this a walk in the park (well hopefully).

Can't comment about valve stem seals but even I've managed to do a few headgaskets.

This is how the car sits at the mo

pulled the head of the engine, and checked out the head gasket,

as you can see its not the worst way to go,

it went across cylinders 3 and 4, and was close to going across 1 and 2

looks like it's had a new piston at some point in number 4

and the head is still straight and true, so all good there

also managed to clean aload of crap put of the throttle body, so should run a little smoother when all back together.

so the polo has been getting a little attention this weekend

started on saturday with the bumpers.

They were completely clean free from grease, them prept for bumper Plast X 5

This is the stuff we used, and it's bloody good.

Been on a few cars now for over 5 years with no fading.

Then they were fitted to the car

Then a new fresh set a British pressed plates were fitted

the tyres which are fitted now, are perfect fitment on the side wall of the tyre, No inward stretch and now outward bulge..

and no scrub.. :-)

As for wheel polishing, the wheels are to be used all year round, and I do understand what your saying about the lacquer going to craze and such,

But the will get really pitted in winter if I don't lacquer them.

So I've started to look in to alternatives to lacquer.

only if you dont keep them clean. personally i like them as they are. mirror polished is a bit bling for my taste.

you can get them sprayed in bright silver which and then lacquered which should look kinda like you have them now.

well i can't leave the wheels like they are coz they are seriously crazed.... hence why i want to strip the old lacquer and replace with fresh stuff....

I might run the summer with no lacquer but I will decide that when i get round to stripping them!

thing is any home done laquer will fester up...so you'l be spending time scraping that off instead of polishing after winter

could you not run some old stinkers in winter?

if you want to run em wash em as often as possible..like several times a week and lash em in wd40 or something

my dad is amazing at spraying.... restored several bikes including his own and has sprayed them all in a garage or in the garden so i think they will come out ok...

Plus if i have to wash them and polish them all the time i will polish off the original factory polish.. which in my opinion is better than anything i could achieve with elbow grease!

ever thought about black (not tinted) rear lights? would accord to the smoked repeaters in the front!

Yes I'm keeping her, just spent out on some spanking new coilovers.... at a cheaper price of course!

And as for the rear light I like my original ones, one side is german so no reverse light (well it lights up red instead) and going to see if t-cut will bring the amber up a bit more...

I know what you mean tho about smoked rear lights...... but its one of the first things that get done to mk2's and i dunno i just dont fancy doing it lol
