So another full day on the Polo

Got the bonnet all done ready for primer now,

Both front wings are on now,

temp wheels are on ready for the paint,

and the front aerial hole in the wind is now gone,

scuttle finished,

ok

More today then...

Bonnet finished ready for primer

second door all ready now aswell.

Got the car back on all fours on the ground.

got all the bear metal red oxide'd, so no nasty surprises later in life.

and all we need to do now is primer the car tommora, then off to see a man with a spray gun....

Oh one more thing......... :ph34r:

Dad was playing with the grinder and may have gone a little too far around the car.... :unsure:

well I'm sure it'll be a quick fix in the morning. :huh:

ok so more stuff over yesterday and today

needed a small weld under the sill, and by the fuel cap... easy fix..

little bit of filler to blend, all done..

then it was primer time..

first the doors.

then came the rear wings...

then the front...

yes that is being rolled on...

purely because it lays it on thick, as it is filler primer.

the body shop will wet on wet prime her before going on to paint.

love it!!! just got me a bready so this is inspirational

This is fully awsome Never seen primer rollered on before, does that tend to work better than spray or just personal preference to applying? Seems to work well for large areas!

rollerin only works on flat surfaces really..

we're only doin it cos we have no spray gun...lol

it will be spray primered in the shop aswell,

we only did it to take the slight imperfections out.

going for some kind of sunroof are you?

Forgot to say the car went off to the paint shop on wednesday morning.

Am hoping to get it back late this week, if all goes to plan.. :biggrin:

went down the paint shop yesterday, took some pics

shell and bonnet done.

They missed a small spot on the boot lid, but they will sort it when they do the doors,

As they ran out of tinter for the paint or somint...

And it still needs wet n drying and polishing as this is just straight from the gun atm

Omg, are you doing what I think you are doing with that massive hole in the roof? Cant see how big it is, looks too small for say, a webasto out of an openair. But maybe too big for a Britax out of a mini?

ok bit of an update:

the plan was to wait for my original sprayer Tim to polish it from fresh paint but hes not back from NZ until the 16th Nov......

i cudnt wait that long so asked the paint shop how much more it would be to polish it as well......

£200 quid!!!! i know they have to wet n dry it n stuff but its only flat surfaces and doesnt include the roof.....

I think i will wait for Tim Tim to come home lol

Only got a few pics and put the grill back on to keep it safe for now...

Also put the boot and rubber on so we got that out of the way, the doors are in the car waiting to be hung and the bonnet is still sat is G's passat until he has to go back to borden tomora so gunna have to put the bonnet on during the day at some point....

so now is the job of putting it back together... which in itself i think might take longer than the prepping did

plastic paint dude...... doing everything thats plastic and grey so it will be black and stay black.....

its things like that that is gunna take the time of getting it back together

got a freshly powder coated rear axel with anti roll bar waiting to go on too

good stuff, i have a soft spot for mk2s really wanting a saloon, good luck with it :-)

The rebuild may take longer than the prepping but it sure is gonna be worthit! It's looking great

ok when we got it home yesterday we fitted the bootlid and the grill, just so they were out the way and off the floor

today went back out there and fitted the fron lights and bonnet

fitted the petrol cap

and fitted the rear lights, one UK Spec and one European Spec.

also wiper spindles back in, car has been hovered out and tidied up a little.

Bonnet took a while to line up properly, but its all good now.

wanna get the doors on soon so there not in the back of the car.

Looking great. Can't beat a fresh lick of paint on an older car

When I put mine back together it took a lot longer than I expected. And that was due to spraying a load of the plastic bits as well

Just don't scratch one of the doors like I did :mad:

And putting them back on a pain even with two of you as they are pretty heavy and awkward to line up.

you are not wrong about the doors, hence why i have an army guy and an aviation engineer round next wknd to do it for me :)

forgot to say, i dont know if anyone noticed this but anyway... we put the wiper motor back in today and found that now we've spliced in the wiper section from the opposite side to make the scuttle the same on either side... the washers dont fit properly so gunna have to either find some off a mk2 or 3 in the scrappy or modify this one......
