Car is a bit of a state externally, plenty of dings and dents but it's pretty darn quick for a home brew track day car.

yeahs thats wicked m8 one day ill have a major underrated car like the ax doing the same!.... we all have to have goal to aim for!

I loved my little polo GT to bits, in fact, if I had the spare cash I'd buy her back in a heartbeat.

Don't get me wrong, the Corrado is fantastic, but the sheer go-kart, small tin box, back to basics thrills of a car like a Polo GT is hard to come by!

If i didn't end up doing a load more miles and growing very old before my time (wanting electrics and leather etc etc) I would have kept my GT!

Here's another picture for your collection. I'm helping a friend at the mo make a track car for him (that we hope to use late next year, possibly totb 09!? although we're still on the shell, and no engine yet!!). The shifter for it turned up not too long ago (exact replica of a genuine works shifter) from America. We were going to make one ourselves, but he couldn't resist when he found this! It's very, very, simple in principle and design. For you it will just be a case of making the linkages adjustable in reach/height so you can fine tune it in the car then either leave it or make a new one based upon your 'results' found. I'm not too familiar with the GT's (joined this forum when I used to have a 16v 6N!) but I assume they'll be rod change, a-la Golf 020 boxes?

Ignore the opening in the trans tunnel for the rod, this has been moved further up now!

Ball joint at the bottom, rose half way up with the rod bracket pinned (hinged) off that. Very, very simple. Basing your design off this but making the variables, adjustable, would be ideal to find out (without stupidly complicated mathematics) what works. At the end of the day, all you are doing is shortening the throw. After this, for further improvement you should be looking at the shifter tower on the box itself (and possibly the linkages from the shifter to the box depending on their run/design!?).

Some of that may not make sense but its late (for me) and I'm pretty tired! Hope that helps/gives you some more ideas to mull over though! Your cars progression is brilliant by the way! Long may it continue and well done!
