do you have a halfords trade card? if you do you can nab a full size professional 7 drawer BB toolchest with a full stock of professional tools. on offer at about £250, hits £200 on the trade card.

how i lived before ratchet spanners is beyond me. and a really good socket set is so important. buy 10, 13, 17 and 22mm long sockets, buy an extra 1/2 and 3/4 wrench, buy some 3/4-1/2 and 1/2-1/4 adapters (and vice versa). a spanner collection involving a long handled 13, 16, 17, 19, 21, 22, 24mm with 6 sides only. avoid ring spanners with multiple sides, they ring tight nuts.

make sure you have a good few extendable wheelbraces, a good (must be high-qual) ball-pean hammer thats nicely weighted, a long prybar, a blowtorch and a few cans of graphite grease spray lubricant.

make sure you have a toolchest. i bought a wooden dining set sideboard and its brilliant lol.

most of the simpler tools can be got at a decent car boot sale. will cost nothing and stuff that looks old is guaranteed to be 100 times the quality of anything new. most of my best tools are older than me. some were my grandfathers. back when men didn't do housework and spanners were built to last. arr.

Also, get yourselves down to Netto. At the moment they have a big halogen tripod lamp for £9.99. Its flimsy metal but the light is awesome, really nice and bright, can go from knee hight to taller than me. Dunno the exact heights but is adjustable. I'm going to buy another one this week cause they are really invaluable!

I was going to mention these but you beat me to it! We got two from aldi at £9.99 each. Not only are they uber bright but they also give off some heat, keeps your head nice and warm whilst its under the bonnet

And today i brought the 1/4 drive socket sett, it is the Doggs nutts! Such good quality kit!

On the snapon website the retail price is £270+vat for the 3/8 drive sett and about £150 for the 1/4 drive sett, fookin bargin!

i got these aswell, when they first released them, i bought the 1/4 and 3/8 drive sets to use at home. iirc i paid £135 for both sets as they were on special offer

bergen is another name to look out for, good quality, reasonable price and a life time guarantee like snap-on.. bought a set of 1/2 deep impact sockets off the bergen man last week for £40.. 10mm - 32mm :-D

definately buy a torque wrench!! and buy the best you can afford

Yeah, its surprising how much heat they give off.

I went to Netto to get another one but none left. Went to Aldi the other day and they didn't have any. Not that I knew they stocked them, but I usually notice things like that!
