the passat mc is a good idea as i can get one new for sub 30 quid, might get round to getting some g60 brakes for it too if i can get another cheap set (will be 256mms as i reckon ill be running 14s) will need to change wheels too but have some borbet ts coming next month at some point but unsure of the condition of them and whether they run true or not but at the price I'm getting em for its worth it just for the tyres

fyi you can get a spline puller for the steering wheels!

True GK engines have DIGINITION (Mapped electronic ignition) / Completely different airbox design

Few other hidden bits like big bore inlet manifold big carb, high comp pistons, angry camshaft

Thats most likely HK or maybe HH

Theres no such engine with a cc of 1263

I can't work this one out from the pictures. It doesn't quite look like an HK engine (can't put my finger on why, but there's something about the rocker cover). I'm not saying it's not an HH or a GK, because I've never seen one.

Inlet fanimold, as far as I'm aware is shared between GK and HK, as both are carbed engines.

DVLA shows 1263cc, but these aren't always right (my 1272cc HK is recorded as 1300cc).

From what I've read - I suppose the acid test would be whip the airbox off and have a look at the carb. HK will run a Pierberg 2E3, but i'm fairly sure that the GK ran a twin choke Solex.

No conclusions from me, I'd probably say it's an HK, but there's enough there to get me thinking.

Engine looks identical to my HK, Cant see any difference at all

GK inlet manifold is unique to the GK engine, that's why us mk2 owners over here have to ship them in from Germany because GK's only existed over there

steee - thanks dude, umm plans are not much bar lowering it and just tidying it up here and there, its not really a car i want to plough loads of money into so pikey cheap mods all the way on this, id love to stick the golf wheels on and will try then but as teh suspension is well soft as fook at the minute id probably catch the tyres off every bump

have got a small raspy noise on acceleration sounds like the exhaust mani is blowing slightly, but i is a happy bunny because its at the front on these polos instead of at the back and well annoying like the golf

and to anyone whos worried I've not sold beena the slaggy golf yet, my mums no impressed and wants it gone but i wanna turn it into a track slag, well it doesnt need anything else doing bar taking to a track haha bumholllllles

I have a weber and GK manifold and its better, just need to sort a few odds and sodds and then its all good. Then its time for a nice cam, 4 branch and some minor headwork and we'll see what we've got. Not much point in tuning the mk2 but i like the carbs and a Gt would be the easy option!!

i reckon if anything id put a weber on with a k&n and a gk inlet and cam and thats me happy, trying to source some cheap shocks/springs at the moment, want 80mm drop ideally but I've been offered some 40mm springs by that dirty one they call modest mouse and I'm passing his in the next few days but i cant be arsed doing it once to do it again...

it is a fun wee car like, i didnt buy it for performance at all, just want a lil reliable beasty to get me from a-b (mostly uni in cold mornings when the bus is an uber unattractive prosect and the golf doesnt even warm up so i dont like taking her)

Arches are riveted inside the arch, and stuck on to the outside. Tigerseal or Sikaflex will ohld them on forever! Or rip it all off and flare the arches hehe. 15's will scrub like fook! MrP has a set of BBS RJ in 14" which are pretty minty, i think he's looking to shift them soon for around £250 with some sickass 195/40 ContiSports.

GT lump may be a better bet in terms of reliability than a shity carb, but then what do i know?! Weber twin chooke is muchosbetteros imvvho.
