Was just busy online, and had Big Brother Live on in the background. They started talking about Top Gear and Jeremy Clarkson, and John the ginger politician came out with "The Stig is Jeremy Gere", and then it was muted. After a quick google search, I have found nothing at all. Tried different spellings of 'Gere' as well, but still no luck.

Any of you old F1 fans heard of a Jeremy Gere? Of corse the ginger politician is more than likely completely wrong, but thought it might be of some interest to someone.

I don't think he said Richard Gere, although the guy who said it does have a very strong Scottish accent But Craig, you're friend is right, he couldn't drive the Lotus (my gay friend told me too, what a coincidence), therefore he couldn't be the Stig!

I cant sleep, it's 6am, it's snowing and........ of all the things I didnt expect to read this has been the funniest!! I've read that theres more than one Stig but, from what I know here's the few who have been identified:

Perry McCarthy - Stig in the black helmet.

Julian Bailey - Stig on the snowmobile on the ski jump episode (Winter Olympics).

Russ Swift said in an interview when asked "Who is the Stig?" he replied "The Stig is not just played by one person." (sounds a tab suspicious if you ask me considering he's a test driver himself).

In addition to that, I'm lead to believe that some cars that go round the track are driven by the cars owner dressed as the Stig! One example being that Maserati MC12.

Thankfully I don't have a Gay mate, although I do know a couple of fany's I thought the Stig was Damon Hill at one point, but I reckon it may be a Former Le Mans driver.

The Stig was originally Perry McCarthy (ex le mans and a little bit of F1) but they do seem to change every now and then. I think they do have a 'general' stig in any one series, who coaches the Stars in the Reasonably Priced Car, but I'm not in the least bit surprised that they bring in specialist stigs for some things, like on the Winter Olympics episode. Because of the way in which The Stig is dressed, it does make it very easy to change drivers for special occasions, or to have a new Stig every few series.

I heard that when Jeremy and Co. went to the US to do the American version of Top Gear, that they took the resident Stig with them.

What is all this talk about who is the stig??
