theres a guy on edition 38 who gave a guide he put a golf on axle stands so the front was in the air put it in 3rd so the wheels were spinning then jst helf wet and dry to the rim well dodgy thou

think i need some alone time with those wheels and your golf and a box of tissues :p tis very nice

Walshc did you apply alot of nitromorse when stripping the paint? and also when is best to apply the autosol, once they are completely smooth and rid of any curb marks and rough surfacing? will the autosol work to bring back a shiny mirror polish ?

how long did the polishing process itself take?

they can be put its generally harder on steel as its harder to get an even finish and you will have to keep on top of polishing them as steel will corode much quicker than alloy

Yeah you could probs use laquer, but that will dull them abit

ok, I'm a bit worried about using nitromors, ie, burning my hands off and polluting after use. Is there anything that can us to do the same job without the risk of mutilation to self, surrounding etc or even risk of death? Over exageration i know, but this stuff is hardcore and I'm just a bit worried about it.

nitromores is for pussies, its not that strong and doesnt burn that bad i found? I'm polishing up my rondells atm and they had some hadcore chemical stripper shit from work, my mates say they stink but i cant smell it, have been feeling a little woosy lately tho :p I'm going for some soft compound polishing wheels to bring mine up to a mirror like finish, then ill laquer them :)

Good threads: I was gonna look into doing this to earn a bit of pocket money (good idea?) as I'm pretty useless at mechanicals but do like a bit of buftyness. Going to have a look for some alloys on ebay come payday, refurbing ftw :). I'll obviously make a topic to show my progress (giving credit where due).

I'm polishin some edges on some gti wheels i cant seem to get rid of the scuff marks from the wet and dry i have got up to 2000 grit and i still seem to get them i am going round in the same direction is this where the autosol takes place? an why do i need lint free cloths i think I've got some somewhere :) and help would be aprecaited .

belgom alu polish is probably your best bet, it wont make them any worse and will give a protective layer to make it easier when cleaning..easily available of ebay i beleive
