Most common reason...

passing your test is not the problem.

its actually learning to drive after you have passed!

i was pretty scared after passing my test and driving on my own and i could drive since i was 15

i think it helped me that i had got my 125 to learn the road before going out in a car.

i got a minor for undue hesitation, no idea how!

Edited by clb

I got a minor for my emergency stop not being quite hard enough, but I couldn't stop any harder in the Ka as I could feel the brakes starting to lock.

I also got a minor for not looking out my rear window enough on my reverse park.

Most common reason: nerves...

Relax, remember what you have been taught and you'll do good

dam right, fucked mine up first time due to that... and the second one, must of just been lucky the instructor had the hots for me

so ware a short skirt and low cut top and you can't fail mate 8-)

deffo nerves getting the better of you!

I got one minor for hitting a kerh with my back left wheel going round a corner.. after it happened i had through it was a major but examiner just told me to relax and i just forgot i had done that mistake and it was my only minor of the test :D all ym amtes hate me they think i should ahve failed and tbh i reckon if i made one more mistake she would have failed me lol

does everyone always feel unprepared the lesson before thier test? i know i did

Reversing when there was a metro doing 20mph my way 3 or 4 miles in the distance.

I nearly failed my advanced for "Insufficient progress", ie not going fast enough, until I explained that that's as fast as 1.05 mk2's go.

They have a quota you know. They are only allowed to pass a certain number of people a week. So you have more chance of passing at the beginning of the week than the end of the week. So it means they can be really harsh on the observation front. Factors like Xmas time and New Year they won't pass as many males to reduce the amount of drink driving and stuff like that.

Stupid cyclists and examiners giving directions too late

and their quota system 1 out of 3 pass.

cough QUOTA cough :ninja:...

^^ uh huh, i failed my first one because of my "observations" on reverse around a corner. i didnt look out the back window as i pulled the handbrake up. i questioned him asi knew how much id been looking round- best tip on that is just think NAKED LADIES! :D its works!, n he finally said it was cos i didnt do that. since found out its not something u can fail on - the looking out rear window thing so it blatantly was quota. 2nd one i turned right out a one way street after creeping like 3/4mile with cars mm from my wing mirrors, i automatically repositioned to the left lane as u normally would n turned as normal n just as i pulled out he said u do know its a 1 way street! 3rd one i felt so ill n was real nervous- ended up doing 40 in a 30- there were no signs, i didnt know the road n there werent street lamps on the section i was on, also didnt check my blindspot once in the 12times i pulled away from side of the road! whoops. passed the 4th with 1minor :)

I used to be a driving instructor a VERY long time ago, and the number one cause of failing was nerves, and not just among the ladies. Laws were different back then and so were attitudes, and if I was at all worried about someone blowing it just on nerves, I'd make sure they had a (one) shot of vodka in them. Tut Tut. But it worked! And I'm NOT recommending it to anyone these days!

The only concrete thing I know about test-passing is that if you give the examiner a nice, comfortable, easy ride and don't make any MAJOR mistakes, you're OK. The moment the examiner feels uncomfortable, he/she is looking for things to fail you on.

As a driving test is not actually about driving.. i found that staying calm didnt work, i just made damn sure i did everything correct for the 40 minutes the test was... not relax.. and just do what needed to be done..

total bollox if you ask me the driving test... ridiculous ammount of mirror checking for the sake of it..

i ride a bike too and on a bike a shoulder check really is called a "life saver" but as long as you have awareness of whats about the insanity of spinning you neck around for 40 minutes like some idiot is utterly ridiculous

Theory test is also a complete money spin.. they calculated an increase of something in the order of millions of pounds extra by increasing pass mark to 33 instead of 31 or something... suprise suprise... " we need to make the tests harder"

I've done my theory once a few years ago and failed for hazard perception, doing it at 8.30 am didnt help either. Got 34/35 and 43/75. So I failed by 1 mark. Booked it again though cause I'm intending to be at some of these shows in the summer...

i only just ran the red though like literally it changed to red just as i was about to go over the line, and seeing as it was too late to brake and if you stop in a junction box its a fail. mm retarded i know the exact thoughts going through my mind at the time were something along the lines of "shit, that was retarded, congratulations youve just failed you dickhead"

and the calm and controlled manner would be in referance to things like stalling, i.e. dont panic and just restart and pull away smoothly.

your in a hole stop digging lol

Lights go from green, amber, then red, if you are going too fast to be able to stop in a calm controlled manner, its a fail, you shouldnt be given a license...

I don't think he was saying that running red lights is a good thing! lol

It's easy done, especially with Lord Voldemort sitting next to you. Better driver if you tested twice anyway! (more experience!!)

Personally, I nearly took out a granny on a zebra crossing - I was so nervous my foot was wobbling on the clutch pedal!!

well i did my test yesterday at 8.10am and well i was pretty tired, i was quite confident even though i didn't sleep a wink the night before. But i stalled on the test, but recovered well and passed with a 11 minors lol, I blame the time of day and stupid idiot's trying to get to work :) But i find that the driving instructors just want to see you in control and not a boy racer. DON'T WEAR TRACKSUITS OR ANYTHING THEY COULD SAY IS CHAV cause they will think less of you.

But if your doing your test you SHOULD be ready and feel confident that if you deserve it you will pass, if not try again till you get it

When i was doing my driving test i conducted the smoothest most clinical piece of driving possibly known to man, 7 minors, most of them for slight excessive speed

I was drugged up to the eyeballs on Pro-plus tablets but they worked a treat

My test went OK. I was only out for 20 mins! The only thing he told me was not to accelerate too as fast as I was. I got 10 minors mostly for pulling away too fast/unsteady and mirrors! I got some on my reverse park as well.

I think you only really start to learn how to drive after you pass and your out on your own. I know I was pooing myself the first time I went out on my own, it had been the first time in a few months since I passed and I didn't drive at all during that period, pretty scary not having a trained instructor with dual controls next to you.
