Will 15" Schmidt Modernlines fit over 280mm G60 brakes?

Featured Replies

As above really, i'm a bit worried that they won't and i'll have a set of useless wheels which i won't be able to return!

15 inch wheels will go over 280mm discs so thats not a problem, if anything dependant on the offset, the wheels may catch on the calipers, if thats the case, some small spacers 3-5mm possibly more but its a case of trial and error, or fit the alloys drive down the road, see where the wheels mark the calipers and grind a little off them, just be careful that you dont take too much off, you just want to allow the spokes to clear the caliper.

i would say run spacers if needed rather than grind the calipers tho... and if you do run some at the front run the same or wider at the back, as you dont want a narrower track on the rear

Sorry I meant will the wheels clear the calipers!

Cool so it's definately only a case of running spacers?

That's not an issue as I'll probably run 10mm front with 15mm rear anyway.

Thank you very much for the response mate... my heart is now beating at a sensible rate! (i really didn't want to have to go for 16's!

youll only need 16s if you go for discs over 300mm...

I ran 280mms with VWII calipers (G40 or Mk1 Golf GTI Calipers) with 14 inch Schmidt Modernlines, but they did need 20mm spacers to clear and stuck out the arches too much.

with the larger G60 Lucas 54 calipers it would be a no go as they are wider and taller than their VWII.

But the answer to your original question is yes. If it will be a straight fit I dont know, but the solution if they dont will be spacers (of indeterminate size until you actually fit your alloys)

If your moderlines are ET25 or lower then i would suggest you probably dont need spacers at all, but offer them up, spin the wheel and look for marks on the calipers if any, then space out accordingly.

btw i would go with 7s up front and 8s on the rear, but picking your offset if buying new is essential to get them sitting level.

I ran ET21 8s on the rear, ET35 7s on the front of my mk1 golf gti, pics can be seen under my topics titled charlie murphy

Unfortunately the modernlines in 15" only come in 8" wide, so it's gonna be 8" all round. It'll still look good imo.

I'll space out the rears to give the arse that fat look!

i ran my bbs solitudes et45 over g60 280mm brakes and they cleared the caliper no bother.

i currently have et22 on the front 8j and again they clear with no issues!

hope that helps!

Loads of pics in that link mate!

Sorry what width wheels are you running??? I think the Schmidts are ET25 but i'll probably use a 5mm front and 10mm rear spacer.
