She's awesome! I'm used to driving a mapped Leon Cupra R lowered with ARBs etc etc and I've never grinned so much behind the wheel! People actually let me out at junctions and wave and stuff! She's like new, I'm really impressed with her.

Actually, maybe you can help me with a suspension conundrum, I've been looking at different setups but don't want to lose all comfort as she'll be the daily and will have to do speedbumps etc. I can see that yours is probably a bit more of a track setup, but what would you recommend for a daily? I'm not afraid to spend a bit of money on it.

That's relieving actually since that was the suspension I was looking at! It's nice to get as much input as possible before spending that sort of cash.

well I've been hard at work!

This is how the garage was

But..the car broke down yesterday. Just cut out. This happening at Brands as well but it came back to life after a while. I have diagnosed it as being the Hall Sender. I didn't particularity want to start dismantling the dizzy so I called VW and they want £300+ for a dizzy! Called GSF and its 70+40 exchange fee. Head to GSF and its the wrong one and they don't sell the right one. Instead I picked up a Hall Sensor for me to change it myself.

Got half way through breaking down the dizzy and its not the right one.

Euro Car Part list a dizzy for my car so I picked one up, it was £160 though :(. Been trying to find a company that refurbishes them but I've had no luck! Fitted it to the car and she starts and runs well!

Also picked up some new VW Top mounts so I can take them and my strust with some new bearings to the garage and get them all replaced. Also looking to replace my TCAs with these http://www.g-laderseite.de/eshop/product_i...products_id=118. Means there will be less deflection on corning and add a bit of camber as well. :)

Should be a nicely specc'd mk2 when finished. As we all know though...... they are never finished :-)

and I need to Order some new R888's to go on them.

The car will go back to Southam Mini and Metro centre for them to give it a check up and a timing tweak.

ANd then finally Bedford track day in July. :)

I'm planning on taking my polo on some trackdays next year :)

Pretty much finished of the mocking up of the seat base.

going to add some angle to brace the front up a bit but it should all work and save some weight.

Had to take some pictures for the insurance so had to give it a clean

Also I went down to a body shop in Kidderminster last weekend to speak to them about the work that I want done with it. I have to say it was great. I really hate dealing with garages as I've just find them disinterested and like they really don't want the work.

However the guy at the shop was great. Honest, interested and was keen to show me other work they were doing. He was happy for this to be a long term project where I would say how much I could afford to spend and they would do what they could for it.

He was also very happy for me to work on the car myself whilst it was at their premises saying why pay them to do the work that I could do myself and also said if I didn't need a quick turnaround that he would get the guys to work on it on weekend for some overtime for them and its £10 an hour less in labour charge for me. So a very happy person I am.

Its going to have lots of work done to it finishing with a full respray and there will most likely be a cheeky roll cage in there as well. 8)

It will be September when this will start so I have 1 track day that I'm aiming to do which is Bedford with Mazda on Track and then I'll be saving money like mad and picking up all the parts I need. Exciting times!

it looks close... and it is but its fine and fits past the seat no probs. Might get a bracket made up so it holds it infront of the seat.

I have a 4 point harness as well, I just don't like using it on the road as its a pain in the arse. So currently its working with the standard belt :)

Well the cage is sorted 8) I'm going to have a 4 point rear cage with a removable harness bar between the rear turrets.

August:

Strip down. The car will be stripped to a rolling water tight shell.

September:

The car will then be taken to PanelnPaint in Kiddy for them to do all the body repairs which I think will take a couple of months

November:

Down to Cotsweld for the roll cage

Back to PanelnPaint for paint

December-Jan:

Rebuild!

Got home from work today and did this

put the seats back in...

and went for a drive. It sounds great!!! But but there is no way I live with it like this, but it did make me smile.

But there is a big hole in the spare wheel well which is rather impressive

This is how it will be at the polo show and then next week the engine and rest of the bodywork will be removed.

Hi there mate I'm still loving your car way to much and just doing the laft fue things to mine but come up with a problem, just wondering what to do with the two wires for the oil preshor switches the one with yello on go's to the sensor on the top left hand side of the afh engine but I'm not to shore what to do with the blue one, any idea's,what did you do???? I've used the mk2 senders and currently only the low presure one is connected. I will be using a t-Peice to connect the high pressure on though.

just sat and read your whole thread ! absolutely epic mate !! you need a sponsor haha ! i think you should be on top gear with this stallion LMAO .. I'm trying to find a good carb for my engine ! . the cbr600 carb you used is this a good choice ? as i dont really know much about bike carbs to be honest , there are plenty of the cbr ones on ebay but quite a few different variants ! look forward to continuing to read as you do alot more to your car

The reason that I and everyone else have used CBR600's is that thats what everyone else has used before us :) So it might not be the best for the job but lots of people had good results and I have got really good results from it so it can't be too bad. Mine were from a 1992 fs/ft model bike I think.

As long as you get carbs from a 600cc bike I think you would be fine. You can use bigger ones but people say that they would be to big for a 1.3/4 so 600 ones are perfect which I think are 38mm chokes.

How ever as you already have a carbed engine the process is a lot eaiser for you as you just (at a guess) remove your current inlet manifold with your carb on it.. make a new inlet manifold to take the carbs.. rejet the carbs to suit your engine.. put it back together and connect the fuel to the carbs an that would be it.

If you are not sure how to do the timing and jetting properly I would highly recoment getting it down to a rolling road so they can set it all up for you. It can some times be expensive but you at least know its right..

sound advice . i will RR it when its done definately as then at least i know its right , wanted to put a better exhaust on too so can do both together then get best out of the car ! cbr600 here i come hehe

So that does just leave the engine which shouldn't take long.

The interior wiring looms will stay and I'll just remove the engine bay one and the heater box which means they should be able to get to all the the nooks and crannies in the engine bay to paint!
