Mk2 Double Trouble

Featured Replies

First off, does anyone else reckon this looks like a miniature bloke made of water jumped off a nearby patio table and fell to his death? I saw it before I went out and had to take a pic.

Right, now that's out the way.

This was saturday's activities in a nutshell. A blat across the nearby 'knider-nurburgring' with EeekiE in front controlling pace in his standard Mk2 Coupe S, with me following. This was all in aid of finally ditching unbranded rear dampers ('dampers', that's an understatement) for Koni Yellows to finally match the front and finally bringing some balance back to the car. The testing was probably the best drive I've had in the car since...a while!

The difference in suspension feedback was huge, the car was rock solid at the back before - now it's firm, compliant yet forgiving all in one. I can't rate Koni dampers highly enough.

Sorry if it's long, sorry if it's boring, but I know some will like watching.

Really liking the car Danny.

Some lovely roads there, but the radio soundtrack was shit. HOWEVER, good 'ol Thomas the Tank engine rocked in at the end for a headbanging finale!

It was massive fun tailing another mk2 coupe, I had the edge in power, brakes, weight and handling which is why EeekiE was in front.

Exiting tight corners, he was able to accelerate out earlier than me, yet my speed could match his on the straight - if you see what I mean. However, if EeekiE wasn't in his daily driver, things would be muchos different.

At the end of the day, yes - you can get 'faster' cars, but anyone who snirks down their nose at old hatchbacks like these with little engines just needs to try it for themselves.
