Well I'm reli pissed off now i have a corsa due to my polo dieing and gon eto scrap heaven so spent over 250quid on this corsa for mot YES call me stupid but anyways i was in need of a car BADLY after 3 months of it getting fixed finaly today i put it in mot center to be tested and it passed i was like GR8 stuff got it home after taxing it white smoke coming out exaust so headgasket gone so replaced tht today to then took it out for a good run jst taking it easy done around 120miles got home decided i need some fags so went to go to shop got halfway there wich is like 5 min drive for me and car started spluttering and then cut out and wouldnt start so dad came to pick me up car is in layby FUCKED and now I'm 250quid down and the car is not worth spending another penny on and I'm realy pissed off now so all you people who maybe thinkin or own a corsa dont buy one and get rid of it bfor this happens

i agree chris, I've never liked vauxhall and I've always stuck with vws and had no trouble the 2 vauxhalls I've owned have been nothing but trouble

You may have bought an unreliable Vauxhall, but what do you expect from an MOT failure that you picked up as cheap as chips. Not all Corsas have been neglected and thrown away, so it doesn't mean that all of them are unreliable.

I'm sure if you went out and bought a banged up Polo for that cheap, you'd be having serious problems with it too.

At the end of the day, you get what you pay for. It's not the car's fault, it's yours for thinking you're going to buy a stable chariot for as cheap as you can buy a pair of jeans on the high street.

i didnt really view my first polo properly before buying and had to replace the clutch, gearbox, battery, dizzy cap & rotor arm, starter motor, exhaust and the ignition coil all within 4 months of having it...stupid volkswagen, wish i'd brought a corsa

my mate went to look at a corsa i had seen advertised for £100 and he told the guy he would go get the cash and be back the next day, on his way home the guy rang and said listen just come get it i just want it gone you can have it for free

was mint lasted a year without spending money on it and the only thing he's done to it is replace the rad as it started leaking,

at the end of the day its not you get what you pay for, its knowing what your looking at!!!!

When I first got my polo, the exhaust went, then the central locking broke, then the electric windows packed up, then I had to get the gearbox refurbed, then the clutch went....... wished I'd stuck with my mk2 Golf.......

The point is, buying a 2nd hand car is always going to be a bit of a lottery - no matter who made it, mainly because there is so much unknown about them - i.e. how the previous owners have treated them. And Phoenix is right - it is knowing what you're looking at, because when I bought the Golf, I got a mechanic friend to look it over for me, and it didn't miss a beat in 5 years of ownership. Like a plank, I looked at the polo on my own, because I thought I knew it all.

corsa's are reliable as hell.

i bought mine for £220 3 years ago, did 40000 miles in it, the clock read 150000 when i got me valver. only part i ever replaced was brakes, tyres, and a bottom ball joint. hardly any rust on it (my polo has more)

the old vaux 8v engines are bulletproof. even with the torture i gave it.

Suppose Maxim is right that was a bit prejudiced.... but I live in the UK and I've seen some of the shit we've built.... my sister had a Rover.... my mate currently has a Rover..... they've both persuaded me dont buy cheap British cars. If I were to have a car from the UK it would be an Aston or a TVR or a Lotus, but lets face it I cant afford one at 19. So I bought a VW, a simple mk3 Polo for the reason they're simple as meccano and have a nice lack of creature comforts, which is much less things to go wrong at the end of the day... and as long as mine doesnt rust away to shit I can fix it myself.

But for £250 you got unlucky, just try and sell it on for what you paid... or clean up the bits and sell it as parts?! I got my Polo for £130 and it's driving at 76k, I just got no license lol. If you check the papers you're guaranteed to find a bargain. On the plus side......

i had the same kinda situation with my old mk2 golf, head gasket went, fitted second hand engine but the water pump started leaking. when i changed that set the timing out by a tooth and fucked the head, got the head skimmed and new valves fitted, fitted new cam belt head gasket head bolts ect ect, started drive fine for half and hour then ran shit, started it the next day only for it to back fire skip a tooth and bent the valves again!

that car cost me 800 to start with and owed me shit loads after all the shit that went wrong with it, but i bought my mk3 golf for 150, it looks like a bag of shit but just won't die, i've opened the bonnet once and that was just to check oil and water.

some times your lucky some times your not.

TVRs are cool so who gives a shit what recycled car its made from, in the end its still far better than the Ford it was before!!

Boyley2 you should change the head gasket then fix your Polo and sell on the Corsa, after all its MOT'd now, so you can sell it for much more than you paid if you put it up in the Trader or that... then use the money on the mk3? Unless its badly damaged, which you never said? What happened the mk3 anyway, why did you need the runabout?
