Is it just me or do mk3 headlights do absolutly nothing to help light the road up. I've already got some driving lamps to fit but its just mad how little they help. or maybe I'm doing somit wrong. its on the first click.

The first click is dimmed, put it on the second click!

Lol just make sure your main beams aren't on, there should be a warning light on the dash (assuming it works). Otherwise you can easily tell the difference by switching the indicator stalk backwards.

lol i haven't been driving it long, an i spose i was listening to what other people were telling me. and apparantly there advice is pretty much drive around with no lights on lol.

Main beam? isnt that the second click though?

On the second click it's either dipped beam or main/full beam, depending on the indicator stalk being pulled backwards to switch between the two. First click is just a DIMmed dipped beam all the time. And to complicate things further, with the ignition off either click is just the sidelights on.

So on the second click with no dash warning light is what you want to drive around on - that's dipped beam.

LOL, It's confusing for some, help them don't bully them, but that was a good joke, certainly made me laugh.

it was only a light hearted joke.

once you have worked out how to use your lights, you will still find they arent very bright. 1st thing you should do on any mk3 is run new earth leads in the original positions - battery to chassis, gearbox to chassis, alternator to chassis and anywhere else in the bay you can see an earth lead. (i used an old amp wiring kit for mine and i also left the OE ones in place too, every little helps!)

it will make a massive difference, brighter lights, better signals for the engine electronics etc.

its also worth cleaning the earth areas and applying some copper grease to them.

if they still arent bright enough you can relay the headlights, i wont explain this as someone has already written a guide in the FAQ section

That click does tend to stick a bit on some old polos, well it did on my first polo anyway. try pulling the switch out an have a play with it (flick it on an off etc..) this stopped mine from ever sticking again.

it comes out quite easy so dont go trying to rip the hole dash off sorry just had a funny thought.

give it ago see if it work. i also suggest buying some uprated ultra bright light bulbs they did the trick for me.

pull the switch out, prise the cover off (carefully) a bit of plastic will probably fall out if you shake it, then refit the cover and put the switch back in! one of my old mk3s was difficult to get the 2nd click, just had a bit of loose plastic it would occasionally jam on
