Passed my test :) then insurance :S

Featured Replies

Well, didn't get much sleep last night. Woke up at 6.30am for my test at 8am

But i passed, even with a stall :S So I'm rather happy.

Then i get home and ring up my insurance company (Quinn) because i was covered as a provisional on my 98 Polo 1.0l for £1225. and tell them the good news.

They say great, that will be another £1400 thanks. I was less than pleased.

Have any of you had a similar experience with stupid rises in insurance.

The point of this thread was basically to warm learners that the jump insurance is there when u pass :)

Thanks

There was no increace for me, when i was on direct line. There wasnt an increace on my mates whos with quinn. So are you saying there now asking 2625?!? or 1400. Its still a massive rise, and fairly undue. I'd call again and get to the bottom of it.

oh my god, i was with directline and it didnt go up, change companies, try directline

there was no change when i rang quin when i passed i recon its who you get on the phone with quin thank god iam not with them no more

I didn't have a car till I passed (Dec 06), but my insurance quote was shocking, I was paying 160 a month (10 months) and 1 Payment of £401 so worked out just over 2k. on a 1996 Mk4 1.4 L

Took that out in March 2007 as the car I brought needed work for MOT.

With Quinn also, they beat every quote I could find.

Have you thought about doing the Pass Plus?

It saved me about 200 - 250 quid

Quote this year is a bit better, down to 97.93 a month (10 months) and one payment of 97.94, so pretty pleased with that, could be better, but it won't, not for a while! :(

Oh the fun of being a young driver

O, and well done on Passing mate :-D

wen i was learning last year with quinn, i was paying £856 for my mk3. then wen i told i past the price stayed the same.

Dont know what is up with your mate.

My mate had the same thing, except he got a quote of £5000 for a corsa after he had passed :?

Seems like somethings gone wrong with how they calculated your quote, when i passed my test the premium didn't increase at all and that was with Quinn too, when did your cover start with them and is the area you live high risk for car thefts

That's daylight robbery, when i 1st passed my test i paid £1001 fully comp on my old 6n 1.4!

That was with pass plus and norwhich union!

When i passed i had a 1.2i mk1 clio and i was paying £1295 3P,F&T.

When i got my polo, went on moneysupermarket.com. got cheapest quote and rang to see about mods so i ended up with a mint quote of £1500 F,C.

Thats for a 97 Polo 6n, wheels covered over 500 with locking wheels nuts, coilovers over 150 and sterio over 500.

still need to ring about my bmc and exhaust lol

yeaa quinn are shite they wanted extra 700 from me. well good with mods tho :smirk:

well i got another quote with adrian flux, they got it down to £1600 which is about £1000 saving. so i guess i will have to be happy with that :)

But been driving today and I'm dispointed with my car really, just feels really old, and no power steering i mean WTF lol

think yourself lucky mine is 2k tpft in my dads name on a 1.0, now thats shit

oh and congrats on the pass :p

So an new driver on the road with just a provisional licence is less of a risk than a person just passed their driving TEST! By which passing you have proved you are compitent (sp) to drive on the public roads!

What a crock of shit.

Insurance is going down the shitter just like everything else!!

i cant belive this I've jus got a really good quote off quinn aswell :disgust:

best bet for some is to go in your rents name, i was paying £800 fully comp in me dads name on a 1.2 corsa with tescos, after a year it went down to £550 a year.

then when i got me polo i got insured fully comp in me own name for £1000 because i had 2 years named driving experience. and thats on a valver

spilz

Difference being when you have someone with you they can help you get out of bother. I am sure there is a tiny percentage of learner divers who right off cars...the same cannot be said for people who have just passed their test.

i was payin £1000 in my first year with quinn on my 6n 16v

They should at least be given a chance though.

Keep insurance the same price after they pass their test after all its probably cost them a good £1000 to do that. Then if they proceed to have an accident then jack up the price!

I always thought that a rise after passing the test was to reflect the greater risk involved with more time spent driving a vehicle, i.e mileage.

Anywaay.

Do the Pass Plus.

My friends are still seeing the benefits after 4 years worth. Their premiums were lower than mine to start with and so every renewal has decreased from that price, so they're renewals are far cheaper.

Infact, using my car at my address but her accident and former price details, a friend has had three accidents at fault and has 6 points for speeding, she is a student and has 0 NCB and isn't a homeowner, the insurance is cheaper than mine with 2years NCB, a clean liscence and no claims within the last three years, all becuase her policy was cheaper in the first place.

i was with quinn and when i passed it didnt go up at all ll

Plus you're going to be in the car on your own, without someone over 21 with a license already..

my mate is with quinn. paying 1100 fully comp in his own name. passed his test went up to 1450.

astonishing

Well, i'm on my mums insurance fully comp with direct line (get my own NCB) for £1300.

To go on my own it was £4800, yes, £4800 for a 1.0 6n2 Polo.

My area's pretty nice, rarely any crime i nthe part i live in, but shares the start of a postcode with a rougher area of Manchester.

I put it in my sat nav and its 23 miles away!!!

So this put my insurance right up, i explained it to them and they said there's nothing they can do.

I pay £360 thats with the nfu and me as a named driver on my car with my dad as main driver, dont know whether it helps that i live in a fairly low risk area and drive a 1989 1.0ltr
