petrol prices going up.......

Featured Replies

It's annoying that you pay VAT on Fuel duty. Thats taxing a tax.

The tax actually hasn't increased by much, it is still the same percentage, these rising costs are genuinely because the cost of fuel is increasing.

At the moment the government is loving it, they are getting loads of tax for no extra work. Also with increased fuel costs, all distribution costs will increase, nothing can be delivered without some form of fuel cost which are rising globally, therfore regardless of which country the fuel is bought from, the product will incur a greater production price, which is passed onto each customer before being sold to the consumer, who will pay the overall cost of the increased item.

The public transport costs will and are rising too as they are affected by the fuel price increase.

The worst thing that could happen would be for motorists to be unable to afford to drive, that will set off a viscous cycle of increasing taxes and other motoring prices to accomodate the loss of income which will knock off a load more motorists, so the prices will increase again, and so forth.

It is like alcohol tax and cigarette tax. They are very high tax %'s and generate a fair amount which is requried for the everyday running of the country. If cigarettes were banned, the country would then have to carry through all the victims of smoking without any financial support from smokers, in other words, same treatment with less funds.

The government want to make things appear green, healthy and better but they simply can not afford to do it in the same way america can, it will take decades before such a massive change can occur

its because peopl keep saying "theres nothing we can do" that its come to this........WHO VOTES FOR THESE TOSSERS? everyone does, so the only people we have to blame is all the people who vote for them

what diesel engines fit in mk2/3s? 8-)

police has been stopping diesel cars checkin for red diesel near where i live, went to my girlfriends house one night last week and they was emptying the tank on a mg estate

petrol prices are a joke, tis stupidly expensive and hard to afford as a student

... very high tax %'s and generate a fair amount which is requried for the everyday running of the country...

I thought that's what I pay tax on my income for? :disgust:

But I know what you're saying - on top of that, the govt relies on hundreds of little (and not so little!) extra taxes far too much to cover up their blatant inefficiencies in managing the country.

If most of us with jobs made wasteful and costly executive decisions like them, and the civil service, we wouldn't last very long in private employment!

Look how corrupt most of them are - and the Tories famously before this lot.

The ballot box just isn't working because there's not enough radical alternatives - ie. honest public servants who take their generous pay and practice 'joined up thinking' about how to best run the country as part of the global arena.

If 10% of the money wasted on spurious benefits for uncontrolled immigration, bogus disability, continued Iraq involvement, Trident, Scottish Parliament, etc. was spent on alternative energy research and deployment, less fossil fuel would be wasted and UK demand wouldn't be so heavy.

Then pump prices might come down a bit, but with China developing like it is and exerting huge demands on global resources - don't bank on it!

Er... rant over... :paranoid: FBI / CIA / MI5 will be round to shut me down if I carry on...

Goverment = Judas

You guys live in some wierd places!! Its only 99.9-102.9 around here... I'm suited now!! :) lol.

what diesel engines fit in mk2/3s? cool.gif

Do a search on Napier Deltic!

Actually, we were all born into a time when (and never before) cheap personal transport was available to most people in the Western World (thank you Mr Ford). It isn't going to last. We're watching the internal combustion engine being relegated to the museum.

i agree jon is a girl

tbh honest if some one sorted out some thing like this i would be straight there, some thing needs to be done and it needs to be done soon. every day we are bled dry by the government with taxes upon taxes, but no one has the balls to do any thing about it, if all the pissed off people agreed to vote for a particular party this government would be out of power, but thats not gonna happen, and even if it did we would still be stuck with an out of touch bunch of c,unts. we made this bed by letting the torys break us down, and now labour (the peoples party) have seen how easy it is to do what they want to a country of broken souls they are loving it, its easy money.

RIP Great Briton.

just been to fill up this mornin, most garages near me ate 104.9

there is a shell garage in bolton that is 101.9 but i would have had no petrol left by the time i got there

106.9 in skegness :(

It better not go up to £1.40 a litre. I'm in a good job getting about the average wage and I'm still struggling to run my car now!

I wouldn't mind paying the extra if the government would lead by example.

They want everyone to go green, use public transport, car share and use hybrid cars etc.

Then they go to their next meeting in a Range Rover V8 or a big Jag followed by 5 others!

I drive a little 1.4 Polo! I dont think I'm the one that needs to go green TBH!!

Oh and I filled up with 110.9p/litre V-Power yesterday! What a rip off!

Well put Kwijibo Coupe, sounds like when I pass my test this year it's gona be like £1.20 a litre or something ridiculous and keep rising until the fastest car I will ever own will be some electric hybric piece-of-sh*t that does 30mph tops.................

Running out of oil? Who's fault is that, not ours!!

Edit: It's not the general public running the army tanks which require a fuel tanker to drive 200 metres behind, the government are the ones driving the V8 jeeps for army use, they're the ones using helicopters daily to train soldiers...... we all pay our taxes.... then they charge US, THE PUBLIC more?

same as mate, any one wanna buy a 16v golf gti? :-(

Yes actually...

The bit I hate the most is I'm driving around doing 20-30 mpg in a catless overfuelling carbed Golf, but still actually creating less emmissions than the people who are conned into buying BlueMotion Polos etc, simply because of the amount of energy it takes to build a modern car!

^^^

My dad said he read some thing on how scientists compared a range rover and a toyota prius from start to finish, i.e. getting all the raw materials, manufacturing it, running it etc etc

And the end result...the prius was actually far more less economical than the range rover ever was

And fuel prices round here, the best is 103.9, I struggle to pay to get to college cos of it, and the roads are shit aswell :disgust:
