I'm just about to go pick up a gt block for an engine conversion into my 1.3spi genesis and i did a little search in here first could someone confirm for me if i have got the right idea. I have an 82k fsh 1.3 spi engine that runs spot on and the engine i am picking up has had a recent head rebuild but the owner is unsure of exact milage on the bottom end so i waas wondering would it be to my advantage to just fit the head and loom etc just know and keep the possibly higher mileage block and bottom end for spares or is the conversion alot easier if i do the whole shabang?

Also whats the difference in the gearing would i be as well fittin the gearbox if i keep my block and bottom end or are the gear ratios fairly similar?

And finally a quicky its running a faily lairy cam about 298 degree which i intend to replace with a standard item however the ecu i'm gettin with the block has a polo ace chip for the cam, should i also make it a priority to get a standard ecu?

298 cam ?

i doubt it. 268 is the norm from manufactures like shrick n newman for these engines.

i wasnt aware you could go over about 276 without major adjustments ?

basically the headm upwards and eveything attatched to it.

kept his spi bottom end and gearbox

MPI conversion basically

ran really nice. with a poloace chip, filter, and golf gti AFM felt about standard GT power, never had an RR to prove that though.

but it was bloody nippy

IIRC the motor he is buying has had valve cutouts machined in the pistons.
