Think i'm going to get banned soon

Featured Replies

Hi I was driving home from UD yesterday and got caught speeding through an average speed thing on the M18 at junction 1 I was doing 102 mph (I am fully aware this is an instant ban and I am prepared for this)

What I was wondering was if anybody knows:

How long I will get banned for

Do I need to retake my test

And how much the fine will be.

thanks a lot

the average speed thing takes your speed over a set distance, i don't think it records your actual speed, just the time taken to cover the set distance, so if you were doing 70 when you came into the set distance then gave it the beans up to 102 then you'll probably end up averaging 80-90, which is not a ban.

yeah they said my average over the 200 yard distance was 102

mate, plead that you need your car for work or somethin and they will give you 1 point lower than a ban, and a fine, if your lucky.

Your *probably* looking at a 14 day ban, 6 points, £250 fine and £30 costs.

Oh shit!!

yep, plead with them that you need it for work, letters from your employer help sometimes, but this isn't a get off free clause, it all depends on whether or not the judge has been getting any action ;) recently, if he's having a bad day he might just ignore your plea.

thanks

i already had 3 points before i passed though and i havn't had my license that long how long a ban do you get for totting up points?

if you're within two years of driving then you're still in your probational period, which isn't good news if you've already got 3 points :( sorry i dont know how long a ban you'll get.

What are these average speed things?

What about those black signs that flash up the speed limit when you go past too fast. They're just warnings right?

well i wasn't listening too much but they said something like

' theres two squares on the road and they measure the time you take between them and however long you take across the distance = your speed '

yeah i think the flash up sign things are just a warning unless theres a man stood next to it

specs

They are called specs cameras there nasty they are always on see the link for more.

If you are in your first 2 years you only need 6 points then you need a retest not sure on anything else

i hate those things. Always try and slow right down when i pass under one. Sometimes won't do me much good though!!

Didn't you notice the signs?

No i normally do either there weren't any or i was just being really slack

what date did you get done if it was when the road works were on there were loads of signs coming off the m1 which had cameras n all :(

tbh honest if you got clocked at 102mph you are gunna have to go to court get you are boss to write a letter saying u need you are licence to drive may help you bot under 2 year driving i reckon you are gunna get banned for max 60 days and full retest both parts plus extented test which is harder to pass as they no u got banned and insurance will be so high

gutted for you mate :(

only other chance you got pay some one to take the points will cost you bare ammounts

tosser tbh

sadly reckon you are banned but normaly u can retake your test in 30days (i think) buts is defo both parts plus extended practical

i was very lukey on m1 with em as there had been a big smash further up so they were packing up u dont stand a chance cos they hide the van

I always slow right down for those average speed traps, they're a nightmare, I hate them.

Coming back from UD yesterday I was doing around 70-80mph average indicated speed, which was more than enough for the road conditions etc.

I don't actually think you were done by a specs cam, I think you were shot with a laser gun by the cops on the bridge. Specs cams have big "AVERAGE SPEED CHECK" signs before you get to them and everyone else slows down.

SPECS cams have loads of average speed signs and the speed limits along them, or the ones that I have seen have anyway.

To be pulled by the police indicates that you were caught by a speed gun.

I wouldn't worry about it as of yet, you could be worrying about nothing. I know it is hard but try not to get too wound up about it.

IIRC there is a certain amount of days only that they can send you the notice. I think it is 14 days but don't quote me on that.

The possability is that the police officer made a mistake only time will tell but good luck.

Your going to have to take your theory test again and take your practical test again mate .

I have had my licence revoked due to speeding .. Well did have a rather long time ago .

Sorry to tell you this but iff your insurance is anything like mine then it wont be cheap at all .

Previously i was paying £600 on a 1.0l mk3 polo

Now i am looking at around and about £1400 at least and thats being 20 years old aswell ratehr tan 17

I got a £300 fine anda 28Day Ban and i had a letter from work . I now have a clean licence but my existing convictions have stayed on the paper part and i have to tell my insirance company . Back on the 2 year probationary period.

Its propper gutting loosing your car mate it really is i have been stuck without one for a good 5 months nearly now at least .

When i get on the road again which will hopfully be the end of this month I'm goign to be cruising around at granny sunday driver speeds for a couple of years at least . Theres no point in speeding its pointless and now i know how much you miss a car when you dont have one .

Feel sorry for you mate but we all have to learn form our mistakes hey .

Stevie *next time il type properly*
