I can agree with Steve Davison, my claim not at fault left me with a massive insurance cost in the the '000's for a standard G40 with a down payment consisting of around £2,000 with monthly installments of a few hundred quid.

I lost my NCB and was only 18 at the time, insurance was so bad that a 1.0l fiesta was over a grand to insure even with a half payment upfront, so that sat on my driveway for 6 months until I had saved up the large down payment needed to even drive that. I didn't like the car and got a 1.3 Polo which was actually cheaper to insure than the Fiesta.

Now I no longer have to declare my claim and the insurance predictions and offers from other companies are coming in at around half my current insurance premium without a massive down payment.

if you have been done by the coppers with a gun then your kinda screwed a bit as yeh your over 100mph, as most people have said if it was the specs that got you then your average speed will be lower.

also what people don't realise is that with the specs all in a row is that when you pass one, make sure that when you pass the next one your in a different lane and the same so on as there was a leacked bit of info on them saying that they only work if the car stays in the same lane, hence the signs saying "KEEP IN LANE"

my mate got a 3week ban (and a hefty fine) when he got caught doing 105 in his gt...

he just claimed in court that the camera was likely to be wrong as it was a 14 year old 1.3 car... so it wasnt likely that he could even do that spped lol! think he did the whole boss says he needs a car thing too!

god damn it worries me how easily you are liscence can be taken from you...bet there isnt a police officer out there that hasnt done 100 on the motor way at some point in their own cars!

In my rover i passed a black freelander he was doing 80mph i passed him as if he was stopped then it as up my ass so i slowed down a bit at this point the freelander lit up like a xmas tree it was a unmarked police car i turned in to a pub carpark and waited for the knock on my window.

He asked me what speed was i going i said "65ish or so err Mr police man" He when mad at me telling me he was doing 80mph (Am sure he could also get nicked for that but i did not say that to him) He then asked if my speedo was out i said yerr it must be he replied saying he will have the car towed and check if i liked? I said no and sorry i was not looking at my speed am late for work ect ect and i little fake at the roadside telling him how much i need my car work was 70miles from home he got a book out showed me some pics of bad RTC's told me he is sick of cleaning up the mess of it all if i want to drive like that do it into a tree I also told him i have a CD10 and 5point. he said i was lucky it was him that stopped me and sent me on my way.

Just tell the truth or it will come back in you face.

Pretty sure that once you breach 100mph your looking at the possibility of getting charged with dangerous driving rather than speeding. I doubt at 100+ you're going to get a short ban. I'd expect it to be in 6-12 month range. Nice big fine too. They are trying to make speeding social unacceptable so I doubt they'll take it lightly. It doesn't help that you already have 3 points...that won't go down well. At least in Scotland you'd pretty much be up shit creek without a paddle at above 100.

No excuses for being slack when doing those speeds...you shouldn't be doing it in the first place...but if you are you should be super alert.

...just think...if you'd just sat at 80mph you wouldn't be in shit, you'd have gotten home in good time and saved some petrol.

To be honest, I am not angry against drivers breaking the Motorway speed limit although I am not one for doing so myself.

I get angry when I sit at the speed limit and have some idiot flash me through town or down country lane, sitting up my arse giving it large.

IMO If you're going to go faster than the speed limit, the motorway is the only road safe enough to do so.I am not saying it is right but I would like the government to raise the motorway speed limit to 80mph or perhaps 90mph on motorway's, the common speeds as it were.

Afterall, 70 mph was set to cater for the speeds of teh average british car back in the 60's or 70's was it? Another rumour I frequently hear is that the AC Cobra Mustang and the Ford GT40 Race cars were speed tested on the M1, which in turn forced a speed limit to stop it from ever happening again.

I would feel much happier if the motorway limit increased to cater for the increasing number of reduced speed limit areas.

Mate, Up to 80mph is acceptable IMO. Anymore and your toying with losing your licence and increased chance of crashing. 102mph on a public highway is just plain stupid. Thats 32mph over the speed limit, would you consider doing 62 in a 30 zone? I doubt it.

IIRC there is a certain amount of days only that they can send you the notice. I think it is 14 days but don't quote me on that.

The possability is that the police officer made a mistake only time will tell but good luck.

You stirring shit for the hell of it or what? 62 in a 30 is nothing like 102 in a 70. There are plenty of occasions where 100ish is perfectly acceptable on motorways/dual carriageways. Even some single carriageways if you can see far enough!

I bet you are one of the wankers who sits at 5 mph under a national speed limit, but 5 mph over a 30 limit.

As in another thread it says if no contact in 14 days then they can't do anything.

Sounds like bullshit to me... What if there is a mail strike or something? Although I have heard something along those lines too.

They may still back-date the letter and send it late. That happened to me once, the letter was dated 3 weeks before the post mark (on a court summons it's a 6 months time limit). But chances are it's not comming, the letters are automated, there's no reason for it to take more than a week.

Average speed cameras are the only thing which are going to make people slow down. Normal speed cameras do jack shit. The Government should scrap speed cameras in favour of average speed cameras if they want to make people keep to the speed limit.

totally agree mate, although in my opinion it should be raised at off peak times when theres less cars on the motorways (say between 9pm - 6am or some thing?), and kept as normal though regular times.
