well after a failed attempt at making a fibreglass enclosure for my subs.

i'm thinking of making a couple of new boxes or modding my own, to make them fit in the space between the rear struts and cluster (MK3)

So this is the design, basically a standard sub box with two corners cut off and sealed up!

therefore

If i make it, i can sell my 2 sub boxes (maybe subs as well and get a pair of 10")

or mod my boxes and keep the 12" pair

any suggestions on what i should do?

that was the guide i was trying, got half way through, looked crap and i had way too much glass fibres in my fingers (had gloves on as well). so got pissed off and binned it!!!

But i did manage to make 6x9 pockets from glass fibre for my parcel shelf (which i still need to finish)

there was a company that used to make enclosures that fitted in that exact space. they were pretty expensive though

i've decided on a fat piece of MDF to hold the speaker, and have a box enclosure on the rear.

since the subs need a sealed box with 35L of air space. the box should be 35Wx40Lx25D

currently i'm running 2 12" subs, one ported one sealed, and i think the sealed give a better sound.

i want shot of the two boxes in the middle of my boot, to make a custom boot build with 10".

this will give me more of a puncher sound, which is what i'm after.

I'm a metal head - but i'm a drummer/bassist at heart and prefer punchy bass rather than flat out ass grinding bass!!!!

I might have a go at making one of those boxes as i'm making do at the mo running 1 12" sub thats in a twin box, with the other sub not wired in! Too poor to buy a new one!

This is proving to be more difficult to plan than i thought it would be.

using the above design, i can get about 20L internal area! and that would kinda be a snug fit!

using an 'L' shaped box would give me less, about 12L.

This is me working on a depth of 20cm though, don't think i can get anything larger to fit in and remain flush with the edge of the strut housing

using the above design with a 25cm depth will give me about a 30L internal area.

i've gone for a fibre glass back to it! (yeah will-antirocks suggestion in the first place)

but this time, i've just the fibre glass paste.

just need to let this set then do another layer and i should be good to go!

dragging up an old thread here but this project has been on the back burners for too long, so an hour yesterday and a couple this morning i carried on with it!!

Well i've chopped some of the fibre glass and reshaped it to fit better.

so close to finishing now i can smell it!

this is only the first one, got the other side to do after this :-D

been thinking of doing this myself in a few monthes time see what yours turns out like first though lol

decided to put it ontop so its easily accessable!

Next problem, how can i secure it in the boot?

velcro?, stuck to the box and inner arch respectivley?

Means you can pull it out if needs be too?
