I hear mk3 polos were not built in the wolfsburg or even in germany, would it be just stupid or do mk3s even have the right to bare(sp) wolsfburg branded items i.e. carmats, gearnobs etc?

They were made in Spain...so kind of doesn't fit in with Wolfsburg...it's all a bit tacky anyhoo.

Lol well unless you're a real VW historian then you dont need to know!! I've got the gearknob and door lock pins (I cant find them but, somewhere hidden in my room), and my mate has the goodies on his mk2 Golf and says the look the part on any VW? So why not?

As I understand it, most of the engines were built in Germany (not the Wolfsberg factory though). The cars were assembled, loosely speaking, in Pamplona (Spain).

In all honesty I just needed a gearknob cause the original 4-speed one was humiliating the fact I have 4 gears lol...

Not all were made in Spain, just most after 1989. Change over happened in the mk2 in the F-reg some time. I'm sure Christian6n has a German built mk4 though!

4th gear in a Mk3 still got me to the wrong side of 100mph so whats wrong with it?

Its funny how people jip people for putting 16V on non-16V cars but it seems to be okay to put Wolfsburg Edition on a car thats not even built in Germany.

Ah who cares outside of us dubbers? To everyone else its just a shiny polished gearknob, I got one from an Accord Type R which made no sense cause I got 4 gears, got it for free but, just never fitted it so gave it to a mate with a Civic... I actually found a couple of DC Shoes stickers when I was brushing the stockroom floor at work, took them home and gona stick them on the side windows, cause I... can? Doesnt mean I'm trying to make it a DC Shoes Edition though lol, would be cool but. Anywho 4 gears just seems oh, so, retro.... back to the 70's 'Stangs anyone? Gotta admit the Wolfsburg door pins look much cooler than original plastic ones, but I'd like to know where the hell I left them!!

My old saloon was a spaniard, that was F reg, but '88, so sounds about right, change over on an F.

My D reg Coupe was built in Wolfsburg though.

Ok now I am confused, my MK2 is on a G plate. But has all the origanl tinted german glas with sandblasted factory logos.

I am sure they wouldn't have imported the glass into spain would they? I just assumed it was built in Germany. Now I really would like to find out! hehehe If any really knows, put us out of our misery!

Ok gents this is whay I found! So if I read this statement from wikipedia, your car may or may not have been made in Germany. I says production was expanded to Germany, does not say moved entirely. So I think the only way you will know is by the chassis number. cheers P

A revised model (Mk II, or more officially, Typ 86C) was introduced in October 1981, with the major change being the introduction of an additional body style with a steep (almost vertical) rear window, as well a version with a diagonal rear window and a similar profile to the previous model. These two body styles were called the Wagon and Coupé respectively, although in fact both were three-door hatchbacks. 1093 cc or 1272 cc engines were available at launch. In 1986, the Polo received numerous technical improvements; amongst many other minor updates, the engines were changed to lower maintenance hydraulic tappets, new camshafts and valve gear and an automatic choke; the 1043 cc engine replaced the 1093 cc, and in some markets the 1.3 litre engine was available with fuel injection and equipped with a catalytic converter. In 1984 an all-new 1.3 litre engine was introduced, which was used in various generations of Polo until 1996.

There was an overlap. It's possible to get G reg Wolfsburg built cars.

Not all the mk3 engines or boxes were built in germany. Some of the later castings, particularly the cylinder heads can be spanish.

I've not been one to be into the whole wolfsburg thing and it can look kinda cheesy what with some of the items that have the logo on. bit like if some one had a turbo'd car and slapped loads of halfords turbo stickers an stuff over it, haha.
