i was try to do the same with 1.6 engine

But want fit !

i think that is the same with 1.4

think there totaly different double the valvers and the 16v is DOHC

think you might be able to do it if you used the 8v block with 16v pistons for the valve cutouts and then the 16v head.

i'm going to get the parts and see what is actually the problem unless anyone can tell us

easier to just swap the whole engine for an AFH or sell the car and buy a 16v is even easier (and prob not more expensive either depending on the condition of your 8v)

depends if you have to buy forged pistons to start with ;)

My mate did this 6-7 years ago

Yeah it is possible, but seems too much effort when you could just swap the whole thing

True, the pulleys are a pain.

ok thanks people, does seem a pain to put 16v head on, would be easyer just to get a new (biger) engine, any 1 know of any biger engines that would fit?? i would rather do this than buy a new car cos mines in goodish nick. and its more fun, looking to make it a little sleeper if possible :)

make more sense to fit 3f head and injection system onto your bottom end with a good cam and re chip much better option just have to sort engine mount nr cam belt

ok thanks for that mate, would a 1.8 gti from a mk3 golf fit?

what did your m8 did ?

do you know if head from 1.6 16v can fit on 1.6 8v ?

i think not beacause of water holes etc ?

opening this back up! need more info to pursuade me not to try lol why wont the 16v head go on an 8v surely yo ujust use the 16v gasket, manifolds and pulley, the bolt holes line up and I'm sure the water holes etc line up to (could be wrong though)?????

Because you need 16v pistons and rods. So the head is from a 1.4 anyway so what's the point? You're just swapping one 1.4 block for another. Just fit a complete valver engine.

1.6 block mate suppose it would much simpler to get a GTI engine and ecu, some1 explain that though ^^ i cant grasp! lol it why do you need the pistons and rods from the valver?

Because the pistons are a different shape,to match the different head. Four valve recesses, different compression, and chamber shape.

The con-rods are far stronger because the valvers ability to breathe more air gives it a higher actual compression. And it revs a higher speed.

The 1.6 AEE block is too tall for the cambelts available - there probably is one that'll match, but i dont know of one.

The only reason to do this is you intended to add a turbo later. A friend of mine added the block of 1.6 8v (which btw is not aluminum but cast iron) to a 16v AFH 1.4 and then created a very efficient and strong 16v 1.6 turbo. If you dont want to add a turbine in your car then its not a mode worth doing.

I would expect it blew up pretty quickly - the compression ratio may be good for a turbo but the anorexia-case con-rods are weak.

Well the head from the AFH goes straight on. My mate used a standard ABU bottom end with cut valve relifs for the 16v. He also used Schrick cams, so the cut outs might not be needed on stock cams.

I recon he is up to 140 bhp. 4 branch, cams Weber DCOE and a 75 shot of Nos Fogger

so would i be right in saying that this would be a much cheaper and easyer way to make my 1.4 afh into a 1.6 afh than the gti bottom end swap?? if so could you pm me more info on the convertion please G40NUT... as trying to find a gti motor near me is proving to be a B*****d... cheers for any info in avance

I would look into fitting the 1,6L crank in the 16v (possibly with the 1,6L rods and modded pistons)

whys that mate??

Much less hassel (eg no hassel) with making pulleys line up. Thats what my mate would do, if he where to do it again

anyone know anything about thiss? would a 1.6 crank fit in my afh block?

cheers
