Declaring Mods.

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I recently declared the mods on my car and they are wanting a payment of £198.00.

My mods are:

>Clear front indicators

>Clear side repeaters

>Debadged Front Grille

>PhilJ coilies

>15" alloys

>JVC headunit

Is this a reasonable price?

Cheers,

Smidley

No all my mods are free!

But if your with an insurance company who charge for mods it isn't that bad!

Lol, bugger. What ins company you with mike6n?

Can I ask why you declared these? Or rather did you ask if they charged extra for these aswell because TBH how the hell will any of these cause you to become more of a risk on the road?

They wont, but I was told to declare anything and everything.

Its not so much the 'more of a risk on the road'

Its more to do with if there were two similar polos... one standard and one with these sort of mods on... which would the "pikey scum" try and nick... I personally think its the 'modded' one...

So therefore it is more desirable.

Thats how I was led to believe the insurance looked at things... If I'm wrong, shoot me down.

Smidley you were right to declare everything even small things like that!

If you were to crash the insurance would pick outthe smallest thing and try to say that your insurance would be void!

I'm with Brentacre but you have to be 19 and been driving for 2 years!

Ok mate, I'm 20 and will have been driving 2 years in September, might check them out when it comes to renewal time.. :) Thanks bud.

No worrys!

id say it isnt that bad seen as quinn wanted 207 just for shocks and springs fitted

Completely agree on this one....

its not about your driving skils.....

one standard polo, one modifed which looks better and possibly performs better....... which would you nick???

also if you have an accident, and insurance finds out the car is modded and not declared, they can void your insurance which will not only leave you with a big bill to cover, but also the rick of prosecution, points and a fine on your licence....i'd rather pay £198 than the latter

I'm only allowed cosmetic modifications to my car, anything that will increase performance of the car is NOT allowed with More Than.

so I'm covered with everything (tints, back box and lights)

i was considering an induction kit but it wont be covered and will void insurance if anything happens. should i get the kit or just simply forget about it??

opinions please :-)

cheers

leave it, not worth it for only a very small increase of power! Low and slow...

this is def a must wen modifiying your car. at the end of the day u could be the safest driver in the world! but what if some idiot hits u? ure screwed insurance companys void the policy and leave u stuck in the mud. so telling them is a must it may increase ure preimium but its a price to pay wen u have a modified car.

I'm not bothered about the performance increase on want it for the noise really. still forget it though??

you get a nice sound from a decent back box, id forget it if i was you or have one and declare it...

cant delclare it they wont cover it or anything that improves, acceleration, top speed or performance. i just want a better sound thats all :smirk:

Get a decent back box then mate... Its better to be safe than sorry.

Insurance companies will do ANYTHING to not pay out. Not declaring things is just giving them and excuse to not pay out.

You maybe the best driver in the world but the person who crashes into your car won't be.

You'll feel pretty smug until something happens to your car!

I'm with Tesco and they charge me £150 extra for my Polo mods of: lowered >40mm, stainless steel exhaust and alloy wheels, I have declared mods on my golf too, its just not worth the risk of not declaring them. I think I can go up to £1000 of non performance enhancing modifications for the £150.

Do most insurance companies do this, you know, give you a set limit on how many mods you can put on your car?

DOnt declare it all. Just say it came like that. What are coilovers? I thought the springs had collapsed!

Haha no not worth it, i bent over and took the anal rape but i was glad i did rather than have to claim against a void policy and be left with nothing at all.

Might aswell not buy insurance at all if you dont declare, its just like youre paying all that money for what? you dont LEGALLY have cover, so no point

Becky, does that mean you said its only lowerd 40mm? or does the ">" mean lower than 40mm? :? as what I've just wrote, why say that? (if it does mean only 40mm) when its clearly lower :ninja:

Does anybody know what Zurich is like for modifications?

Cheers
