new minis

A stock mini cooper S [older super charged one] is a great car to chuck about.

i took a 220bhp cooper S with decent tyres and some strut braces round brands hatch and was completely blown away. the handling is so precise and the car feels composed. The power is just there on tap and the car pulls like a train.

Although when I drove a stock one I felt they were very much hit and miss in terms of handling and power. As a driver you feel very detached from whats going on. Beyond your normal new car compared to old polo standards. The dashboard is so deep, the windows are small, c-pillars obstruct vision and you generally feel like a passenger more than a driver.

Although the car has HUGE potential to be a brilliant car. Shame it costs about 4k to get you there. Plus its the biggest pain in the ars car to work on. Engine bay is like a game of tetris. If anybody is concidering tuning a new mini speak to Roland at GTT Tuning. His products are engineering masterpieces. Some folk may rember him from way back when as a Renny5 tuner.

oh and the power steering pump is the loudest thing on earth

Too right I'm considerin bein a wheel whore and getting a spare set for the summer haha. Where do you get the split rim style ones in gold? i've got 6x14 BBS RJ's half way through refurb and am gonna do them in gold with a polished lip, but only the shiny gold used on the Porsche GT2's, not Subaru style gold....

i seen them in a mini magazine wanted gold because its the colour rim they used on the old rally cars that had minilite but wanted a modern twist with bigger size.

Ah right nice!! I'm not keen on the new Mini's as they're everything I dont want my little mk3 Polo to be:

- Too big.

- Too heavy.

- Wheel arches are huge and require massive rims.

- Car just looks like a toy in my opinion.

I'd have the old Mini anyday, with some wide 13's!!

Use to drive one as a learner car and was really impressed it was the Mini One and i thought the gearox felt really responsive and well built, nice and easy to drive especially being a learner at the time

Was that with Bill Martin?

Old Mini...it's like driving a coffin... I went in a friends once and I was actually scared as we passed trucks on the dual carriageway.

i dont think its fair to compare the original mini with the new and newnew mini as they are completely different. the only common factor they share is they both handle superbly. i loved my old skool cooper, was great fun.

used to work for bmw mini, so got to drive the new one too, and allthough not that fast in cooper trim, it was an absolute hoot to drive. The cooper s wasnt that fast due to the fact they had to de-tune it as it kept blowing something or other up (can't remember what it was, but the tuning companies must have found a way around it to get 250bhp out of them!)

For what the engine was in the new mini, they didnt do too badly cos its basically an old chrysler design, so the new engine was a big and much needed improvement.

As for the chimp who claims the new mini is german! stop talking out of your ass! the mini was under development before bmw (the ass raping, asset stripping cocks they are!) got hold of rover.

a coffins bigger!

and of course you were going to be scared, theses nothing there on the cars really which is what made them so fubarring brilliant. i think we are spoilt today by modern day conveniences in our car, were washed away in our vehicles with our drably mundane handling characteristics, predictable cornings and huge self massaging self heating self blowjob giving seats.

most people who actually drive on the roads, dont! they just potter around in thier cars completely oblivious to the world around thing because enya is being placed through 17 speakers for perfect harmonic symphoney or some balls

when your in a mini you feel at one with the road, you know exactly how many ants you just killed in a mass genocide raid as you drive along as its all comunicated to you via the steering wheel, you feel like your going fast at 40 whereas in your new car you dont feel like your going fast at 140

miss my mini loads, new mini cant even be compared to one for a start

i love older cars for the fact you actually have to drive them although i'd sometime love the help of power steering with the 15's on the polo lol
