It depends on the harness. Some are road legal some are not. They have to be ECE Approved and I think have an 'e' stamp to be road legal. As for the back box as long as it is secure and not likely to fall off from a big bump and not bouncing around then it should be fine. Mine passed and it is held up with 4/5 heavy duty cable ties :)

Mine has been through two (or three, I loose count) MOTs with 3 point cobra harnesses without any problems - they are fixed to the original seat belt mount points so are nice and secure.
