How long is a piece of string?

It will differ from insurer to insurer and policy holder to policy holder, the only way to know is to call the insurance company.

I understand that yes i was just looking for a ballpark figure .

Iff it would cost more to change a mk2 1.3 to the standard of the 1.8 16v i can buy then i might aswell pay that bit more for the insurance and do a engine change on the mint shell i can get hold of .

Looks like i will have to give a few people a ring around and see what they have to say .

you've been banging on about this in another thread too, just phone your insurance company up and you'll have an answer in ten minutes!!!

Shall do sorry for causing any form of grief mate .

shot down joking  i don't mind you asking any way lol

gotta b 21 or over to insure a conversion even if it had a 2.0l and you are puttung a 1.0l in they still wont insure it !

Stevie, I know that car means a lot to you, but it's gonna mean a LOT of work rewiring the the thing from fuel injection to carb and then back again in a few years time.

Buy it, store it for a rainy day and get some NCB behind you on a smaller engined car be it a Golf, Polo or something different altogether, then you'll be able to enjoy the car as it was intended. I do appreciate it's a longer wait 'til you'll be driving it, but it'll be worth it .

I can't imagine any insurance company giving much of a discount (if any) for a Golf GTI with a 1.3 engine in it, they'll still see it as a Golf GTI no matter what. In fact a lot of companies will still charge more for it than if it has the GTI engine in still as "engine conversion" is just a big black mark to most insurance companies. It's a silly idea, just go and buy a decent 1.3 engined mk2 golf, there's loads of them around if you look. Not hard to make them look like a GTI either if that's what you want.

But as with ANY insurance pricing related question the only people who can even give you a ball park figure is the company themselves, it just varies too much from person to person, company to company, location to location etc...etc... for anyone on here to give you any kind of meaningful answer.

Your right karl ...

I have admitted defeat with the mk2 and think its going to have to be put under a cover for a few years and braught out on either day insure or when i can afford to insure the thing .

Looks like its back to the drawing board ..

Need something nice and cheap with a small engine .. i have a couple of things in mind just need to find the suitable car now .
