Hi all, this is on behalf of a mate.

Hes recently looked into buying a mk2 golf, 1984 b reg. At the moment hes 17 with no NCB obviously.

Weve found a mint mk2 golf, 1.3 C and hes due to pick it up later this evening. Problem is, hes just called his insurace company up (quinn) to change the cars over from his old one, but they're refusing to insure a car thats oer 20 years old.

Does anyone have a car over 20 years old insured with quinn and how old are you? Does anyone even know anywhere that will insure him for a reasonable price? Seems the only other quote we can get is over 2000, and he lives in a good area and his old insurance was at least £500 off that price.

Can anyone please help!

They will insure anything...well almost.

They are the same company but they differ depending on what you want insured!

thanks for the replies, spoke to quinn and its simply company policy not insuring a car over 20 years old. probably why they usually have the best quotes, technically safer cars... ppfft. Will try the above companies in a min. We were thinking if he were to become a named driver on the car, on his dad or stepdads policy, it would work out much easier it would just mean he wouldnt earn dedicated no claims, which is alright for him.

HIC they may even do a classic car policy on it my gt is 17years old and on a classic car policy renewed this year for 237 quid will all mods thats only having insurace for one full year my 1st year was under 400 with all mods etc

with HIC you have to be 19 years old iirc.

can't complain about them tho, both me and my mate are with them and there quotes have always been good for us.
