not yet, but in our local paper last week was a full article highlighting boy racers, saying the police will be out in force the next few of weeks, stopping modified cars to check the exhaust emissions and insurance, make sure your insured for all mods x

We had that a while ago...

the local cruise was in the sainsburys car park, so it was organised that police swoop in and block off both exits and divert all modded cars, or even cars that could be a part of the cruise to have official VOSA checks at one designated exit...

i had to laugh at the copper as he asked me to wind my window down to check the tinting..... it was manufacturer tinted glass so he didnt have a leg to stand on!!

almost ALL cars got through apart from a few which were complete wrecks, police said they was suprised, but then again its people who look after they're cars so why would they be illegal?

Dunno but he quoted me sum law thing i wasnt paying attention at the time he given me the fine took my details I've thrown the fine away and he i haven't had a letter back yet for court so i think it was a scare tactick

we have a huge cruise the first thursday of every montha dn the police are involved in it, they have the usual traffic cops there and vosa too crack down on illegal cars, and uninsured no tax etc, but in the paper it said the police would be out in force in the town pulling any modifed car, not really fair is it, there are older drivers out ther with probs more illegal cars than our modified ones, they could be uninsured, drink drivers, baldy tires, no tax etc etc, yet coz we have a modifed car they pick on us more x

It's cause there aholes and have nothing better to do... there to lazy to deal with real crime!

its not in the polices jurisdiction to check whether the mods are insured, so as long as its the correct car insured nothing they can do on that front!

But surely they should be checking if modifications are declared? As driving with undeclared mods is as good as having no insurance anyway...

Yeh i got pulled....but cant remember the reason....oh yeh, not running a front plate. But got fined for my arches fouling the arches, fined for tints and 2 advisories to get sorted at an mot station....front plate and exhaust being too loud!

I said to him that from what i had always been told was there was a decibel limit with regards to an exhaust. He then came out with this utter bullshit story that anything louder than standard is illegal!!!! I had a bit of a reaction to it which he wasnt to pleased about but i think he could see i knew he was bullshitting! I basically told him to go track down the hundreds and hundreds of thousands of cars across the uk and question them on it also! Arseholes!

yeh but there not alowed to check whether your mods are declared or if they are they are not allowed to tell your insurance you have modifications its not part of there duty as a police officer.

i got pulled the other day after my mate drew on my window the Swastika: Nazi Sign, he threatend me with a fine i told him to bollox, said it was some kind of public order he drew the sign to make it look like a window lol

well you don't have to believe me but I'm telling you that the law says that it is not in a police officers jurisdiction to notify an insurance company of modifications to one of their clients vehicles, the police cannot check induvidual modifications to policies but they can check whether the vechile is insured, and by which name it is under who is on the policy, the year,colour, auto/manual, engine capacity etc.. but not modifications as it has nothing to do with the law!

yet again, motorists with nice cars (such as us lot) being victimised because we're easy! If rapists and murderers were this easy then we'd all be happy!

Sounds as though most the coppers you lot have met are complete arsewipes! I got pulled years back for a dodgy back light (which i didnt really know about - how you check a brakelight by yourself?) and he was more than happy to talk about my car for ages and that was when i owned a bog standard mk2 bready!

I'm no legal expert, but I was of the apprehension that if you have undeclared mods, then you do not have appropriate insurance in place, which is a criminal offence. Likewise they can query a vehicle being used for business that does not have business use insurence.

I've also never known a UK legal professional talk about police jurisdiction in this sense, but I'll use the 5th ammendment to prevent myself going further into that.

yep..i got pulled over for next to zero ground clearance...he then checked my side exit...said nothing...checked my arch gap(zero..infact it was negative) i told him i was a mechanic...i am...well i was..he then asked my what engine was in the car as i accellerated away from him quite fast,only to 70 like....he then had a little chat with me about where i had been and where i was going...let me go with no producer or fine or even a warning...i went 2-300 yards down the road and he'd already pulled someone else...a brand new golf...he was clearly bored hahaha

I'm not saying don't decalre your mods, because if you crash and you want it repaired the insurance company will try and wriggle out of paying and modifications are an easy was to invalidate your insurance, but i have always been led to believe that a police officer holds no right to tell your insurance company of any modifications to the vechile!
