Corsa VXR

Featured Replies

Hi,

Been a while since I sold my G40 and came off the road for a bit. I'm now driving a Mini Cooper S which is great but I feel like a change.

Anyone had any experiences with the Vauxhall Corsa VXR's?

They look pretty good and on paper they seem to have a lot for their money.

Regards,

James

i like them, they look sick

I'm sorry but I'm just about to slate the Corsa VXR like a bitch!

Well mainly just any Corsa D.

I cant stand them! They are too big, bulky and not light and nimble enough to be classed as a 'supermini'.

I haven't driven a VXR but I know they are ment to be fast on paper. But I had a slight encounter with one in my Saxo VTR (which was shagged btw) and I managed to keep up with it.

I have driven a Corsa D CDTI which I found to be absolutly awful! Terrible driving position, loads of blind spots, Sit well too far back, absolutly no feel when driving and overall just not a pleasent drive.

The VXR could be different but I cant see it being by much.

Also as I said before the thing that really annoys me is its size. It comes standard with 18" alloys :? thats huge wheels for a 'small' car.

But anyway thats enough of my ranting. I just dont like the corsa at all!

they look crap, get a clio 197

i dont think they look crap but i would have a 197 instead aswell tbh

a friend of mnie ahs teh VXR in blue and ahs recently had a new exhaust system put on it... it goes like stink and i cant remember what they are but I'm lead to belive that they are a 1.6 turbo? if thats all they come in then id be worried that a VTS kept up with one?

my girlfriends dad has a corsa vxr in black and my dad has a zafira i think there amazin i do like the clio aswell so i aint being biased lol it might be a 1.6 but it puts out 190bhp and i dont think a vts would keep up

o and the corsa vxr comes with 17 standard and the 18s as optional

According to Parkers they're quick and very comfy. I saw one this morning, though, and thought it looked horrible. :puke:

1598cc 16v turbo

6-speed box

Power: 189bhp

Torque: 230Nm (170lb-ft)

Weight: 1223kg

0-60: 6.8s

Vmax: 140mph

the torque is increased with the over boost to 260Nm

Yeah see everyone has mixed reviews about them. I really like them. I've got a test drive booked for Monday so I'll see how it drives.

I've tried to get a test drive in a Renault Clio Sport 197 but non are available at the moment. A worrying thing was that the salesman on the phone said they get alot of trade in's of the new ones - are some people not impressed? Also car reviews mention they have to be really thrashed to get the speed out of them.

get an astra VXR 8-)

LOL 6.8 seconds to 60 my arse, I dunno where Vauxhall get their figures from... There's a lad at college with one and we can not no matter what get the time below high 7s on the performance meter. I might not be the ultimate driver but I know how to change gear in a hurry so I doubt it's me, and he was struggling to break into the 7s.

They are fucking rapid from 80-100 though, ideal for overtaking.

Is the corsa vxr not the fastest production 'super-mini' around the nurburgring?

They are way too gimicky and oversized. Gimmie a Mk7 Polo GTI or a new Clio 197 any day!

I really dont think the mk7 polo gti is even in the same league as the clio 197 or the corsa vxr

I could believe it, the mid range shove is quite impressive. Just standing starts aren't their thing lol.

so how come its slower than a fucked VTS then? surley a turboed 1.6 would beat a non turboed 1.6?

I'd like to see it keep up with a Civic EK9 Type R, and that's not turboed.

I really really don't like the Corsa VXRs, everytime I see one, it reminds me of a fish. It's too in your face, chavvy yobish looking. It may be a 1.6 turbo, but it's an engine which is pushed to its limits, especially if it's made by Peugeout.

If I had the choice, I'd pick a Mk7 GTi anyday, it's a much more understated car, with an engine which is proven being used in the TT, S3, Golf Anniversary. It can bring much more significant performance gains, and has proven reliability. It may be slow standard, but with simple mapping it goes to 190 break, with more torque making it significantly quicker than the VXR with a bit more gains.

i dont know much about engines which is why I'm asking as I've seen one go down a piece of duelcarrageway near me and i thought it was very fast ...

^^ I'd agree with that, its got the yobish boy racer look for some reason. Styling wise its still ok but I don't really like any part of the styling. Problem with Vauxhalls I find are they don't age well and nor do they feel nice to be in ie: cheap feel material and usually fall apart.

i absolutelly love the old 172 clios mk2 phase 1 they are cheap i won't say reliable (french) and they are the fastest clio sport on paper i believe as they are the lighttest, I'm not a big vxr fan like someone else said type r would eat one up
