All the N/A newish hot hatches feel a little bland imho allthough clio197 is nice to drive looks smart and still sporty

even tho the corsa is probably quite fun cos of turbo powerband it just just looks like a chavved up peice of shit, then i am biased cos i just hate vauxhalls and every (lets aim all our cars at budget people) vauxhall motive.

for kicks the ibiza turbo 1.8 is pretty rapid

I thought they were about 185-190 bhp - which is pretty much the same as the EK9 Civic Type R, also a 1.6, without a turbo.

Yup they were. 1.6 185bhp normally aspirated.

My mate has one, not my styling, looks too overkeen imo

it was fast but had loads of torque steer and spinned the wheels alot.

the seats I didn't think were that great either.

For some reason, I find that people that used to have a Vauxhall always see them from a different perspective. Just because it's an improvement on the old corsa, it doesn't make it a good car. Those buckets are probably the only thing that looks appealing in that car for me.

My friend has one and it is amazingly fast for a 1.6 turbo and but build quality and drive dont feel that good, Polo GTI anyday.

I wouldnt get one but thats your choice, dont think the corsa vxr engines last too long either since they are so high strung

sod the corsa VXR, have you seen a Zafira VXR, 2.0T pushing about 240. for a people carrier they seriously move and more importantly have those folding seats with 100s of combinations! :grin:

carnt believe so many people dislike the corsa vxr lol each to their own i spose my dads got the zafira vxr polopete and gfs dad got the corsa i love em both :-D

not a fan of it, saw a 197 the other day, looked pretty cool but n/a engines dont appeal to me unless they are monsters

Your first point is exactly the same as the Astra VXR, in fact, any big power front drive Vauxhall, they just don't do chassis design. You can forgive a G40 for it bearing in mind it's 30 year old chassis design, but a brand new car built with GM money? Pathetic tbh.

The second applies to all Vauxhalls as well.

a mate has the astra 1.6 sports hatch and the car is so well set up for the power it has, if it had any more power if would be dangerous and skittish which is exactly what they have done with the astra and corsa vxr, they both do not have the chassis's to handle the power properly so are very torque steery.

There are better cars out there, ibiza cupra, leon cupra, 197, ek civic (jordan or tye r best ones), integra type r etc.

All the engines and chassis on those have been proven many times before to keep going and also still have more potential in them! a mates jordan is running 305bhp at the wheels with his turbo kit!! That is a machine! I like the integra type r's.

How old are you? How much you got to spend?

I'm 21 in a few months and am awaiting my skyline gtr and all in i bet it will cost me loads less than buying and insuring the corsa and will have more potential. Yeah its older but who cares it is an awesome car! not to everyones taste but respected as a decent car by most!

running it wont be different to my g40, its just parts that are dirty exp!

my mate has insured his evo for 1100 fc so I'm going to try that ins company!

i expected much worse but an happy and have got me a good loan too.

1900, well that is cheaper than i would have thought for a GTR, still 2k a year for insurance !!!!

i had a bit of a blat with a vxr up the m40 and it was quick 60-100-120.

but the clk pissed all over him after that, straight up to 140.

Corsa VXR. Personally I'm not keen on the styling and the interior has a few naff touches but it seems like a really capable car from what I have read/seen of it. It has one up on the Clio 197 when it comes to mid-range performance thanks to the turbo. A lot of road testers say the 197 is just a little too peaky to be a great companion day to day...never been in one but I can see where they are coming from. Weight + rev-happy N/A engine isn't the best partnership from what I've experienced. I'd love to be able to compare the new hot hatches and see how just how different they all are.

Gut instinct would see me plonking my hard earned on the 197, Fiesta ST185 or a first generation New Mini. The styling on the new New Mini is a serious let down, I'll never forgive them for that.

Toby just cause it doesn't hold the road like your banged up Mk2 Golf...you shouldn't compare it to something so out of reach

Our 2.2 Astra SRi was a great car. The seats were pants, but the ride, handling and engine were all strong points. Gutted we never kept it, I'd have much prefer it to the Focus.

Hmmm....again more mixed reviews.

I've had VW's for years and have never faulted them (apart from the gearbox that fell apart on me) I've got a Mini Cooper S at the moment and it's just lacking something cos it's so heavy. The Corsa I think is a bit lighter and more nimble. Don't get me wrong I want to try everything I can afford but just because you don't see many of the Corsa VXR's and more of the Astra's thats why I want one. I drove the Astra VXR which was nice but wasn't keen on the torque steer.

All I want is a nice quick little hot hatch thats going to last me a couple of years. Maybe it's not the Corsa but thats what i'm swaying towards at the moment

Cooper S only weighs about 1150kg? Hardly lardy for a car with 170bhp? I doubt the Corsa will be anywhere near as nimble.

Compared to the cooper s the corsa looks alot more nimble - i was never impressed with the mini's handling. thought the grip gave up way too easily

my mates nearly standard cooper s performed really well when he took it on a track day, the traction was awesome! He did really well against other more higher performance cars on the circuit as he had more confidence through the corners as it gripped so well.

All he has done is put 22mm anti roll bars on and lowering springs!
